The Bird-in-Hand Bakery
When I was in Lancaster County, PA, last March, I visited the Bird-in-Hand Bakery, and it was an inspiration for the details in my first book, A Gift of Grace. The food was heavenly, and my mother, friend, and I enjoyed an amazing Amish dessert sampler. I have to admit my favorites are the Whoopie Pies.
The young Amish women working at the bakery were very friendly and also were patient with my questions. They allowed me to take some photos, which I would like to share here.
Next time you’re in Bird-in-Hand, be sure to look it up.
Enjoy the rest of weekend!
Amy

Thank you for the peaceful pictures. If only the aroma could seep through the internet...
Do I detect the reflection of a blue clad young Amish boy in the right-side of the glass door? Sure seems to to me!
How quaint.

Amy,
I agree the Bird In Hand Bakery is great! We go to Lancaster every year and stop at this bakery every time. If you get back there try their Cheese Bread it's fantastic. We'll be there next week, I'll be thinking of you.

Hello, I went to Bird-in-Hand Bakery in July 2008 when we visited Lancaster County. The Bakery was wonderful. Their chocolate milk was the best I have every tasted "ever"!! I would recommend stopping there.

Amy, thanks for sharing the delightful photos of the Bird-in-Hand Bakery. The timing was perfect, as I just received A Gift of Grace last Monday in the mail from Christianbook.com and saved it for this weekend when I could get some quiet time to thoroughly enjoy it. I really enjoyed the story and the characters and look forward to continuing to read the Kauffman Bakery series. I just wish someone would develop your series and Beth's series into movies or even TV series. They are so inspiring and uplifting, and they deserve more exposure so more people can benefit from their messages. Have you or Beth thought about sending copies to Michael Landon, Jr. to see if he would be interested in either series??? Keep on writing!!

Something happened so I hope this isn't a repeat. I tried to do spell check and my comment disappeared.
I just completed The Gift of Grace which I throughly enjoyed. Thank you for the wonderful recipes that were a part of the events in the story which makes them that much more meaningful.
I hope there will be a sequal because I would like to learn more about the relationship development with: Rebecca, Samuel, Jessica, Lindsey and Jake.
Keep on writing!!!

Valarie Spalek asked me to post this on her behalf:
I have to say that I really enjoyed reading "A Gift of Grace". I think you captured your characters perfectly. Everyone knows the struggles of being a teen, but to have your entire life turned upside down and then to be thrown into a foreign lifestyle would be challenging for the average person, let alone a teen. Plus we can all feel for Rebecca, taking in her neices that she didn't even know and loving them like they are her own. I think that your story follows real life with the struggles of each character being fully developed. You have written a lovely book and I loved the pictures on the web page that compliment it. I only hope to some day get to go to the Bird-in-Hand bakery.
Looking forward to reading more about the Kaufmann family. Hopefully the characters will continue on in the remainder of the series....I really want to know what happens to Jake and Jessica, Lindsay, Rebecca and Daniel and their baby, Sarah and her baby......
I also wanted to thank you for the free book. I have left a review at the Christian Book Store and will hit Barnes and Nobel and Amazon later today.
Keep writing,
Valarie Spalek

I love the Bird In Hand Farmers Market and stop at the bakery in there every time I visit Lancaster but have never walked across the street to the actual bakery. Now I will be certain to do that. Actually I didn't realize how big it was since I have only seen it from the farmer's market.
