A Man of His Word Giveaway!

Wow, I can't believe Wednesday is already here! The week has flown by. Thanks to everyone for their male name suggestions, I really appreciate it.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of A Man of His Word from Thomas Nelson, and I'd like to give it away on this blog. To enter the drawing, comment on this post and tell me the title of your favorite book and why you like it. It doesn't have to be Amish--it can be a classic, a children's book, a nonfiction book, even a textbook if that's what you're in to. Next week I'll announce the winner, plus compile a list of the books and post them here for easy reference. It's always nice to have a list of books that others recommend.

'Til next time,
Kathleen

My favorite book is "Love You Forever". Even though it's a childrens book, it really means something to me. It is about a mother and her son...she rocks him as a baby and whispers...I'll like you forever...I'll love you for always...as long as I'm living my baby you'll be. This book sums up how I feel about my children. I'm not sure who wrote it. I like to give it as a baby shower gift. Hope I win the advanced copy!

I wanted to send a comment on my favorite book. It's not a published book though. My mother passed away 5 years ago at the age of 72. Since her school days she wrote poems....poems about everything in life, her friends, her struggles through divorce and raising 4 children, her faith, tragedies...you name it she would write a poem about it. I can remember my mother always wanting to have her poems published but just never got the chance. After she passed away I copied each poem 3 more times and made "Mom's Poem Book" for my twin brother, my younger brother and my sister for a Christmas present so to us her poems were published in our hearts. That would be my FAVORITE book. I also read Wanda Brunstetter, Beverly Lewis, Kim Vogel Sawyer, Beth Wiseman, & Cindy Woodsmall in the Amish; Sylvia Browne and Ann Rule and two other authors I read. Thank you and have a wonderful evening!!

I would love to win and read your book. I love to read any and all books, but I would have to say that my favorite books are the "Harry Potter" series. I have even started to read them to my six year old, although he prefers the movies. I have read many good books lately and wish the people in Hollywood would consider doing movies on the Amish books out there instead of remaking old movies. I think they have run out of imagination and don't know a good thing. I think that lots of people read Amish stories and would go see the movies based on the books. I like to read the books first and then go to the movie, but I have to say the books are always better than the movies. The stories I have read lately include Beth Wiseman and Amy Clipston. and I would be the first in line to see their books in movies. I have just started on the amish books and hope to read more as time goes on.

Besides every Amish genre book I have ever read being my "favorite", I guess all the Mitford Series books by Jan Karon are my favorite! IF I MUST choose just one book, though, maybe "Home to Holly Springs" by Jan Karon. Gosh, it is sooo hard to choose just one favorite book, though! LOL! I dearly love both of Beth's books AND Amy's book, "Gift of Grace" & look forward to the next books in those series!

Kathleen, I am always excited when a new Amish book is being released. I know you should NEVER judge a book by its cover but "A Man of His Word" cover jacket looks FABULOUS! A favorite book of mine is a new release in the Miller Family Series by Mary Ellis, "A Widow's Hope". Hannah Brown, widower, moves her sheep to Ohio to be with her sister and family. The wool sure does fly in this novel so to speak. This book is an inspirational story of trust in God, who sees our needs before we do. God Bless!

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is one of my favorite books. The reason that I like it so much is because I had a very real and emotional reaction to it. And, the range of emotions I felt while reading this book are remarkable. Love, hate, anger, joy, sorrow (lots of sorrow), pity, horror, and everywhere in between. I have not seen the movie because I want to preserve all of these feelings I had when I first read the book.
    Thanks!

    Hi Kathleen, How are you?

My favorite book would be Rebecca's Promise and I liked it because it has a lot of inspiration in it and being a promise that she made to a boyfriend when she was at a young age and finding out later on in later years that she didn't have to keep the promise because the two of them went on in life their seperate ways.

    A very interesting read.
Not only that but I just like reading Inspirational and novels of and about the Amish culture.

    Hi Kathleen,
A Man of His Word sounds like a great book. I'll look forward to reading it. For years, I've said my favorite Christian fiction book was Sophie's Heart by Lori Wick, and I still love it. However, I believe Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers has taken first place. I read the book of Hosea before I began Redeeming Love. I have read it twice, used it as book of the month for my book club and shared it with numerous friends. It stayed with me for a very long time. I think the humbleness of Michael Hosea and his utter obedience to God ~ even when he did not understand ~ were the two things that stood out so much. God had that perfect plan, which we sometimes tend to forget.

My favorite book is "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. Why? Do you like reading a book many times and seem to learn something new and different every time you do? I love deep thinking writers like C.S. Lewis. An atheist turned devout Christian through his trying to disprove God's existence and that Jesus Christ is The Messiah. This book was cool when it was not so cool to me. It is also a great read. Lee Strobel may have wrote "The Case for Christ" but C.S. Lewis did it first in a depressing and somewhat haunting way to me. He poured his heart and soul into everything he writes. I believe this is his greatest masterpiece. "The Screwtape Letters" was great and can be read over and over but "Mere Christianity" beat it. When I was a Christian for 10 years, I was challenged to read this book and I will not look at my pursuit and understand of Christ the same because of C.S. Lewis' approach and evidence laid out in that book. If you have not read it, then make time and let me know what you think later even if I don't win this contest. Congratulations on having given birth to another book like a baby!

I love all the Amish fiction books and all of the authors. I am so excited about having new authors. I have enjoyed Cindy Woodsmall's books.I have bought all the books about the Amish and will continue to do this. Please keep writing about the Amish. I admire their ability to keep to their faith and live the life they live without the WORLD stepping in. Keep on writing about them.

Hmm, hard to narrow down to one fav book, I like/read/write nonfiction, but the latest fiction I read and enjoyed was The Veritas Conflict by Shaunti Feldhahn. It was an engaging mix of fiction and nonfiction with a reminder to pray without ceasing.

My favorite book is "The Postcard" by Beverly Lewis. I bought this book in 2001 and it inspired me. I had never before had any desire to read books. I despised reading books in school. Ever since then, I have been reading every Amish fiction and other Christian fiction books that I could get my hands on. I absolutely love reading now and am so grateful to have these books to read.

Since I can't narrow my favorite book down to just one, I would like to share the titles of an Amish Christian fiction series that I absolutely love, have read and re-read many times, and of which many of you may have never heard. They are:

    Search for Eden
    Return to Eden
    Dawn of Eden
    Beyond Eden
