Happy Holiday Weekend!

It has been a crazy week – so crazy that I almost forgot to update this blog!  First off, I’d like to thank Kathy for mentioning that A Gift of Grace made the CBA bestseller list.  What a thrill it was for me when Beth told me the news.  I never dreamed that my very first book would do so well.  Thank you all for buying copies and supporting my book.

And thank you to Barbara for posting such a wonderful review of A Gift of Grace.  I’m so honored that you liked it.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I hope you all are enjoying your holiday weekend.  My husband’s aunt and uncle are visiting us, and we’re having a wonderful time.  This is the first time I’ve met his aunt and uncle face-to-face, and it’s the first time my hubby has seen them since 1988.

Tonight we spent the evening going through old photo albums.  It’s been bittersweet seeing photos of my beloved father-in-law who passed away unexpectedly in December.  It’s hard to believe he’s been gone for nearly 6 months.  I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing photos of my hubby’s grandparents and great-grandparents.  I’ve been making copies of the photos, and I ran out of toner!  I’ll have to stop by the office supply store tomorrow.

Since we’re discussing family memories, I thought I’d pose a question this week.  What are some of your favorite family memories?

Enjoy your holiday weekend!
Until next week,
Amy

Summers at my grandmother's house will always be wonderful memories for me. She loved family, and loved to show her love through her cooking. Even if it was 2am when family arrived from out of town, grandmama would get up and insist on fixing them something to eat. No one ever went hungry around grandmama!

I have so many wonderful memories with my family: Eating meals together, celebrating Christmas, birthdays, and many other family related occasions. I will share a humorous experience that happened to my father. My mother had placed a small cup of laundry soap on the kitchen table which was unbeknownest to my father. My father drank his coffee black with a teaspoon of sugar in it. My father had made himself a cup of coffee and put a teaspoon of sugar in his coffee cup but the liquid began bubbling and frothing. My father threw that out and washed out his cup and began again with the same results. We all found this very humorous.

    Amy,

I love your book "A Gift of Grace". It was wonderful, I really loved every aspect of the book.

Some of my favorite family memories were when my husband was racing cars and all the family would go with him. Of course, he didn't drive a huge car. He drove a Modified Midget but it was fun.

Amy, it is great to hear that you are having a wonderful holiday weekend with your husband's aunt and uncle and getting to enjoy the family photos. When our four children were small (now grown--38, 39 40 & 42 years old!)we spent Christmas and Easter with my husband's parents and his family at the family farm. As the children grew, they liked to be home for the holidays instead of "on the road," and we saw the relatives at other times and began our own holidays at home. Now that we are "Grandpa and Grandma," we plan one event a year at Thanksgiving and all the kids, spouses, grandkids, step-grandkids, step-great-great-grandkids come if they can. We fix a big buffet meal, where everyone can serve themselves and go back for more! Then while the adults visit or walk on the trails in the woods, the grandkids enjoy going to the creek and digging in the sand! Since Sandy Creek is a "seasonal" creek, it only has water in it when we get heavy rains. The rest of the time it is just sand, so it feels like going to the beach. Even the teens enjoy digging and digging until they hit water! We're hoping they are making some memories for a lifetime! Thanks for sharing your weekend with us!
