Happy Reading!

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great week.  Mine was really busy.  There’s been so much going on at my house that I’m almost dizzy!

Despite the stress, I’ve done my best to keep writing.  I hit 52,000 words on my third Amish novel.  I’m really excited about the story.

Speaking of books, my younger son has gotten into the habit of having me read him three books, the same three books, every night.

They include:
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown and Felicia Bond
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd

When I was little, my father read Goodnight Moon to me, and I memorized it.  I remember reciting the book while he turned the pages.

So, I thought I might ask about your favorite books.  What were your favorite books as a child?  What are your children’s favorites?

I look forward to your responses!
Until next time,
Amy

My daughter use to love the Bernstein Bears. Even now at the age of 28 she has bought new copies of the series and gotten ones that she never had.

I enjoyed reading a series of books about a nurse named "Cherry Ames...." The series started when she went to nursing school. I also liked a nursing series about a nurse named Sue Barton. There was not as big a series about her as there was about Cherry Ames. I think I obtained my love for nursing after reading those books. The were romantic, thriller, mystery, true life books.

I was a little partial to "Goodnight Moon" too. Another favorite was "Are You My Mother?"

      Hey Big Brother!

Thanks for posting on my blog!  I love "Are You My Mother" too!  That was one that I always asked Mom to read to me while we were waiting in Dr. Sabella's Office.

I am sooo... excited that you are busy writing, because that means, I can keep reading! My favorite book as a child was Zippy, the Chimp and Anne of Green Gables. Our daughter's favorites were Good Night Moon- which she also memorized, we could never skip a page!! and Eat Up Gemma. As she grew up, her most read teen books were the Shopaholic series- which she discovered when we were visiting family in England. I am disappointed to say- shedoesn't like to read now- as a university student. With a father who is a librarian and a mother who was a teacher!!! What a shock!

Thanks for your comment, Karla!  I hope that your daughter finds time to read after she finishes school.  Zippy sounds like a great series.  I haven't seen that one.

My favorite books as a child were Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys. My daughter was and still is an avid reader. I know she still has all of her Nancy Drew books. Now she is a Historian & a College History Professor & reads a lot of historical non-fiction, but she has all of Nora Roberts/JD Robb books to date. Reading is such an important thing to have your kids begin reading as early as possible. It opens up so many doors. I also have all of the Harry Potter books, I have to admit... I am still a kid at heart!! LOL

Thanks for your comment, Karen!  I agree that it's important to get kids reading early.  My older son complains when we make him read, but he's really good at it. I hope he develops a love for books.
