Questions, questions

E-mails flew back and forth this week as the four of us discussed topics for the blog.

Kathy thought it might be fun for us to interview each other. See, she'd been interviewed by Jenny B. Jones on July 6 (see www.JennyBJones.com  and scroll down until you see Kathy's smiling face).  Beth and Amy were enthusiastic and Beth was immediately firing back with clever questions we could ask each other. I was the only one who wasn't fond of the idea. I wasn't being perverse. It's just that I don't think I'm very interesting. I happen to love to find out about other people instead. One of my favorite things to do is to strike up a conversations with a stranger in a public place. I also have this habit of listening to the conversations of other people in public places. Yes, it's rude to eavesdrop but it's not only a great way to hear interesting things people say, it's also a device to improve dialogue. People are themselves when they don't think anyone but person they're talking to is listening.

If I ever sit down next to you and appear to be dozing, don't say anything you don't want to see in a book.

Anyway, I wrote my three compadres in Amish fiction back and suggested that we have a contest to feature one of our AmishHearts.com readers in this space. So just reply to this post with one line about why you'd like to be a "Featured Reader on our blog. Wouldn't it be fun to see a photo of yourself and a short interview in this space. Why do you read Amish fiction? What do you like -- and not like -- in it? What kind of person are you? What kind of work do you do and what are your hobbies? Tell us about yourself...C'mon, don't be shy!

So please, enter and I'll choose a winner next week. Just write one line about why you'd like to be a "Featured Reader" on AmishHearts.com. Save me from trying to be being clever answering questions Kathy, Beth, or Amy think up for me to answer ....

Hi, Wanted to reply even though I don't seek the limelight (being featured). More like you I like to read, see, and hear what others are reading, seeing, doing. This is a neat entry, after all, thanks for suggesting it!

Glad you liked it. Wouldn't it be something if your name was drawn?!

I really don't think I am interesting either, But, I really think it would be fun. I like the Christian inspirations in Amish fiction. I don't like the Shunning. I am a 66 yr. old Grandma and have been a shy person all of my life. I love to read and I like to Crochet, play scrabble and Yatzee. I also work in a Nursing Home in the Housekeeping Dept.

    Hi Rose,

I wonder if anyone thinks they're interesting? Oh, wait, I remember that writer at a meeting the other day. HE certainly thought he was interesting. We didn't think he'd ever stop talking about himself!

Glad you entered the contest. Good luck!

Okey here I go - I am 59 years old and way to close to 60. It doesn't seem possible. I have been married 30 years to one and only one man and wasn't married until I was 29. I have two gifts from God - oldest is 28 going on 29 and youngest is 23. I have taught children for 41 years in one area or another while working as a bookkeeper.
I quit working outside home and did all types of work at home while my girls were growing up. I'm an empty nester now.
So I have come to be a reviewer this past year on many sites and found some very good authors. I like to share their books with others and many have been amazed at the books I have found. I give the books where God directs me and have truly been blessed.
I love to read about the Amish as I grew up in Illinois and always visited the Amish Village in Arcola, Il. as a young adult. But I got more interested after we moved to Missouri as Seymour is an Amish village and I pass it going to Springfield, Mo.
What I like about the Amish is even though they live a simple lifestyle, they face a lot of the same struggles everyone else does. I grew up without inside plumbing and running water in the house so I know first hand how it is. We did have electricity. Our heat was coal and wood burning stove. So it is like living what I lived when young.
I am a giving person. I have always loved working wtih children and older people.
My hobbies are reading of course, encouraging authors, praying with others, sewing, and teaching.
I work with Royal Rangers (boys grades Kindergarten to 2nd graders) on Wed. night now even at 59.
My husband is a Deputy but has been a welder/pipefitter, EMT/Paramedic, and Security Guard at a Resort before.
My joy was watching my girls grow up and trying to be the best wife and Mother I could. But when your kids get young adult, they can make you wonder.
I suffer from rhuemotoid arthritis, have a knee replacement, and a fused ankle. I had two back procedures this past year. I sometimes feel like I am pieced together but still going on day by day.

Like you, I don't think I am a very interesting person, but I do love this Amish blog and all of the author's books about the Amish. I have taught primary children for 34 years, two years ago retired and now am enjoying traveling, knitting, scrapbooking and painting. Not very exciting, am I!!!
