A Rainy Saturday at Home

Hi everyone!

There isn’t too much going on around our house this weekend.  At the moment, I have my hubby and two boys sitting on my bed while watching Nitro Circus on MTV.  My older son is holding his guitar that he’s supposed to be practicing.  They’re all excited because the show was filmed in Charlotte, NC.

This week I finished my draft of my third Kauffman Amish Bakery book, and my critiquing friends are reading it.  My mother is having a difficult time putting it down, which makes me happy.  Yeah, I know, moms love whatever we do, but it still makes me smile that she loves it so much.

I think it’s wonderful that my Amish Hearts sisters are running contests this week.  I’m not running a contest on this blog, but please feel free to check out my personal blog for a contest for my new romantic suspense, Betrayed.

My older son is strumming his guitar now.  When I was in junior high and high school I played clarinet.  My dream is to learn to play piano whenever I have the time.  Do you play an instrument?

‘Til next time,

Amy

Oh cool, Molly!  I played clarinet in concert band and twirled baton in marching band in high school.  My batons are in the attic somewhere, but I gave away my clarinet.  I wish I still had it.

I think every child should learn to play a musical instrument. It doesn't have to be a life chosen career. It's just good training for later years. I played piano and flute in junior high and high school. When I got to college I played flute and learned to play the pipe organ. I have fond memories of playing these instruments. I don't play the piano much any more....arthritis and age has slowed me down. There is so much joy in music.

I agree that there is so much joy in music and all children should learn to play an instrument.  I'm sorry you don't play much anymore.

My daughter was once one of the finest church pianists around. She doesn't get to play anymore and it makes me sad. But, a full time job and four children prevent people from really doing what once made them happy to do. I asked her one day if she would teach me how to play. After several weeks of "Lessons," she looked at me and said, "Mom, you don't want to learn how to play the piano, you just want to play it!" I guess she told me! I wonder if one of her teachers told her that in the beginning of her lessons.

No, I have never played an instrument.. I guess I had one of those flutes in school, but, didn't seem to be able to master it.. But, I really do want to learn to play the piano.. I have self-taught myself a little bit, but, it is only a beginning and I need to sit down and get busy with it. I only have one of those small keyboards to learn with at the present.. I couold/should take lessons, but, I sort of want to self teach myself. Although the lessons are not really all that expensive and there is a teacher here in town and he teaches all intruments.. I pray and hope some day I will be able to play..

I'm with you about the piano.  We inherited my hubby's grandma's piano and right now it's a fabulous picture holder.  I want to learn to play it someday.  But first I must find the time...

Nice for your family to be together, on your bed watching TV. Fun! Yes I played a violin when young as well as the drums in high school! I used to carry the BIG bass drum in strapped in front of me for parades. Our kids were all musical-son is a Minister of Music, sings & plays trombone - daughter sings & plays sax, 2 other daughters played French horn (after cornet) and clarinet...one played all thru college. Music is very important for children. We have a granddaughter studying music in 3rd year of college (major trumpet,& a grandson studying music (major voice) in 1st yr. of college.

Would you believe I not only took ballet (LOVED it), tap dancing, and baton twirling, and piano, but I also took accordion? It was a popular instrument when I was in elementary school in Cincinnati, Ohio, which has a large German population.

I wasn't very good at the accordion and ended up dropping the lessons. I still hope to continue the piano lessons one day when I have time. You know how it is...
