My Son the Reader

Below is a pic of my oldest son, Eric.  He's so funny.  Plain Perfect debuted over a year ago (which is hard to believe!), and Eric is just now reading it.  Eric is 25, just graduated with his masters degree in music performance, and snagged a job as a professor at a college in Houston. His entire life revolves around music.  The conversation on the phone went something like this.

"Mom, I'm reading your book." Big pause.  "You can write!"

I find his shock at this news amusing since I am working on my seventh book.  "So, you're enjoying it?"

"Yeah, and I just can't believe it."

I can picture him shaking his head.  "What made you decide to read it after all this time?"

"Oh, I don't know."

I suspect I know why.  "How's your new friend?"

"Oh, she's great.  She asked what I thought about your books."

Aha!!  I knew that somehow there was a girl behind his motivation.  "And what did you tell her?"

Heavy sigh.  "You know, Mom. I didn't want to read your books.  In my wildest dreams, I couldn't imagine that I would like books about Amish people falling in love. I didn't want to have to lie and tell you I liked your books when I didn't.  But..."  He paused.  "I'm going to need you to mail me book #2 this week.  Oh, and you might as well go ahead and send book #3 too."

He tells me this in a tone that's urgent.  I'm smiling at his honesty.  Eric couldn't tell a lie if his life depended on it, so I'm thinking he must really like this girl to risk reading the books!  LOL...   And I'm super happy that he liked Plain Perfect.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that.

On another note - somehow Kathy's book, A Man of His Word, slipped onto the CBA and ECPA Bestseller lists without getting a mention here!  CONGRATS, KATHY!!!

And, I am loving Amy's new cover!  Just beautiful!

Now.  Jealousy is a sin, so I guess I'll just say that I am SOOOO envious that Amy and Kathy are going to get to meet in person to do a book signing!!  Sure wish I was going to be there, and Barbara too!  The four of us have never met.  You girls have fun and take lots of pics!!

Hope everyone has a great week.

"This is my mom," Eric says proudly.  "She writes books.  About Amish people!  And they're really good."

I love you, Eric!

Beth, congratulations to Eric on his graduation and new job! How wonderful that he can work at what he loves! It's good to hear that he is reading your books and enjoying them, even if it took someone else to motivate him! What I love about your books is that not only does one get the "feel" of what it is like to live in an Amish household, but I always "feel good" when I read them because of the inspiring messages woven throughout the stories. These are much more than an Amish romance; they are truly inspiring life stories! Keep on writing!

I think you must have been twelve when you had him. A very handsome son . My mom always said the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and the looks are in this family for sure. Wonderful news on his job. My son-in-law has the same degree for the same thing.

Beth, forgot to mention in my earlier comment--Congratulations to Kathy for A Man of His Word's having hit the CBA and ECPA bestseller lists! Well deserved! I already have her next book on order and thoroughly enjoyed her novella in An Amish Christmas, as well as yours, Beth, and Barbara's. An Amish Christmas is a real classic, a must read!

This is sweet! I have a 24 year old and I can't imagine a compliment like that coming from him. Be happy MOM and congrats for raising such a fine man. And I also agree with him, the books are excellent. I was in Lancaster today and felt I was living in one of the books. Thanks for bringing Lancaster alive to me.
