Not a Foo-Foo Gal!
I woke up this morning to lots of wind, lightening, and rain. A perfect day to curl up and write. Thank goodness it's raining. We have had some beautiful Texas weather the past few days in my neck of the woods. Only thing about beautiful weather is - makes ya wanna be outside...not inside writing. So, I decided to help Hubby clear the land! Yes, I get my nails done, and I enjoy the occasional pedicure. And...as shocking as this is...the blond hair is not entirely mine. BUT, here's proof positive that I'm not a Foo-Foo Gal who can't get her hands dirty.
Hubby Patrick killed a huge snake last week - almost 6 feet long, and we have scorpions, chiggers, and ticks out here! But I was determined to do my part on Saturday. Several times, I thought about how my Amish friends would be tackling this task. We had chainsaws, weed eaters, and a Mule for hauling - modern equipment that they wouldn't have considered using. If Patrick had his way, he would spend all of his time outside working on our land, much like my Amish friends. I must confess - I worked most of the day Saturday, checked for ticks that night, slept like a rock...but I didn't head back out with Patrick on Sunday afternoon. I decided to observe the day of rest.
Here's me when the adrenaline was flowing. It was a successful day with no snake sightings.
Hope everyone has a great week. Many Blessings Friends!

| Patrick chainsawed it down, and I loaded it up! (Not sure if 'chainsawed' is a word, but you know what I mean) | |
| Then I hauled it to the burn pile in the back of the property. Check out those big gloves. I think I grunted like a man several times...LOL. |

Beth, great photos! I was out last week picking up branches, moss balls, etc. before doing what I hope is the final mow for the fall. We try to keep up about 2 acres around the house, old garage, carport, old greenhouse, old barn, trails in the woods. When there is a lot of debris down from the delightful rains, my hubby Ervin drives his John Deere tractor and pulls a utility trailer to haul off the piles I rake together. When there are smaller piles, I drive my riding mower and pull a small wagon/trailer behind it. We take the debris to "dump" piles in the woods and these become "condos" for the wildlife. We don't have a good spot to burn big piles of debris because of all the big old oak trees here. Ervin also shot a snake a few weeks back, the first in a good while, but it had 6 rattles! He has taught himself how to skin it and process the skin so he can save it with the rattles attached. He, like Patrick, loves being in the woods; and since he is retired, he likes to take more time and trim things with a hand saw instead of the chain saw. Although working out here is tiring, it is also very peaceful and reminds me of a simpler day and time, or the more basic lifestyle of the Amish!

Great Blog and photos,Beth, Reminds me of when my late husband used to cut pulp wood and also firewood.... I and our two children when they were both younger used to be right out there with him hauling the wood out to where we could load it up and we had to load it up by hand and pile it on to our pickup truck that we used to have to haul it on... The kids and I would take turns on the truck loading and stacking...More of like the Amish ways, Jah?
