An Amish Gathering in Library Journal

First of all, thanks to all the readers who put Plain Promise on the ECPA Bestseller list for November.  I'm blessed that the book has been so well-received.  THANK YOU for reading it!

And just this morning, Barbara, Kathy, and I got some great news about An Amish Gathering getting a mention in Library Journal. Here's what they had to say:

This anthology of three novellas reveals the diversity and poignancy of Amish life.

In Wiseman's "A Change of Heart," Leah has a talent for writing, but her Amish community neither highly values nor encourages this skill.

In Barbara Cameron's "When Winter Comes," Rebecca continues to mourn the accidental death of her twin sister.  Only the love of a friend may bring her back to life.

In the final novella, by Kathleen Fuller, "A Place of His Own," Josiah Bontranger returns to his family homestead only to find himself falling head over heels for a girl from his youth.

VERDICT -- With a glossary and authentic Old Order Amish recipes, these three warm, entertaining stories are sure to please readers curious about the world of the Plain People as well as fans of Beverly Lewis, Cindy Woodsmall, and other authors of Amish fiction.

So, we're super thrilled about the great review from Library Journal!

Next, I have to say how much I enjoyed Amy's pics of her kids.  Reminded me of when my boys were young.  We would decorate like that, really go all out, and we loved doing it.  This year, even though I only have a 17-year-old still at home, I decided to put a few things out -- only to take them all down again.  Apparently, my Labrador (Chloe) didn't like my light-up pumpkins, and she started eating the chords!  So I was only left with a few Halloween decorations on my mantel.  Thanks, Amy, for sharing your evening with us!

And last - I'm going to copy Kathy.  If there's anything you want to ask me, now's the time.  I'll answer any questions next week!  Hope everyone has a fabulous week!  It's cooled down here in Texas, and we're enjoying some great weather!

Peace, Beth

I would love to know how you decided to write about the Amish people? Where did this love of the Amish come from? I am from Brethren In Christ background, so I have always had a special feeling for those so dedicated to their faith- also, many of their beliefs are similar to the older members of our church- which I recall as a little girl- playing under the quilt frames at quilting bees at the church, etc. I just wondered why they have become so special to you.

Beth, what a nice review for An Amish Gathering from Library Journal! Can't wait to read it. Also, when I was in Columbus last week, I was delighted to see that the library there had An Amish Christmas in their new book section!

Congratulations on Plain Promise landing on the ECPA bestseller list, Beth!

And yay, I'm so happy that An Amish Gathering is getting "good press" already. Proud of the three of us (Beth, Kathy, me) for the hard work we did on it. Hope our readers like it as much as An Amish Christmas!
