Holiday Fun!

If you're like me, your to-do list is probably long enough to wrap around your Christmas tree a few times. Even with all the hectic activity, I still love this time of year. I hope everyone is able to take some time to reflect on the true Reason for the season and celebrate Jesus birthday along with your special holiday traditions.

I thought I'd post a few fun things today that you might enjoy: a link to a spectacular light show, a simple Christmas decoration and, of course, a recipe from one of my Amish cookbooks. Enjoy!

Craft:
Candles are very popular gifts among the Amish, especially at Christmas time.  Here's a pretty and simple way to display pillar candles. (from: http://www.bhg.com/holidays/christmas/indoor-decorating/how-to-make-an-evergreen-candle/)

What You Need

How to Make It

1. Prepare the glass surface by cleaning it with window cleaner. Then select any flat evergreen pieces you would like to use. Coat the greenery with spray adhesive.

2. Wait a few seconds for the adhesive to get tacky and then attach each piece to the container with the ends hanging from the bottom of the container.

3. Allow the greenery to dry for a few minutes. Then trim the bottoms with sturdy scissors, floral snips, or garden shears.

Recipe

Eggnog Pie (from A Taste of Home from the Schlabach Family)

Ingredients:
1 tsp. gelatine
1 T cold water
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
2 T cornstarch
1/2 t. salt
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 T butter
1 T vanilla
1 cup whipping cream

Soak gelatine in cold water. Scald milk. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt; mix well. Add to milk and cook till thick. Add eggs and cook a little longer. Add butter and gelatine. Cool, then fold in whipped cream. Pour in baked pie shell or layer in bottom and add fruit filling on top.

'Til next time,
Kathleen
