Sports, Stress and Denial

Hi everyone!

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!  It’s been crazy here.  This morning my boys competed in their first karate testing session and did really well.  They both progressed a belt and are thrilled.  They worked hard.  My older son wasn’t a karate fan until he earned his belt today.  Now he’s excited to keep going forward!

Tonight is an exciting night in our house; it’s the night of the first NASCAR race of the season, the Budweiser Shootout!  We’re fans here.  Next week is the Daytona 500!  Boy, the offseason went quickly.  Are you a sports fan?  If so, what do you enjoy?  When I was a kid I was a baseball fan.  Being Jersey Girl, I rooted for the Mets.  Now an adult, I like racing more.  I’m not much for football, but I like to see the Panthers win.

Speaking of NASCAR, I wrote a story, “Kevin Harvick’s Gift of Caring,” which is featured in the new Chicken Soup for the Soul: Nascar: 101 Stories of Family, Fortitude, and Fast Cars.  The book will debut February 16.

This week I’ve been working hard on my new project, an inspirational book that is not Amish based and is due to my editor April 1.  I’m excited and nervous about it and even more stressed sinc I discovered that one of my Amish deadlines is going to overlap.

So, instead of writing tonight, I avoided it and changed the cat box and then started checking email.  I guess you can call this denial.  How do you deal with stress?

Well, I best force myself to write.  Enjoy the rest of you weekend and go #88!

‘Til next time,

Amy

I am not a sports fan at all!! Sorry, but racing is clear out of my realm completely.
It must be nice to be able to write like you do. I would LOVE to write. I published one book but it was very amateur. I have a very strong desire to write but I am so limited. I am 64 years old. I wrote my first book when I was 60. I can't afford a class or correspondence course and so I fiddle. I am writing a book now but it will be a little less than a miracle if it gets published. I am a conservative Holiness lady and feel the need for some good solid holiness novels for our girls. I have an anxious editor who loves to do it but the expense is more than I can handle. I just wish so badly I could write like you young ladies. God be with you & bless you.

I don't really have stress anymore. I took an early retirement after 35 years with the State and I'm enjoying it. I can finally do the things that have been waiting to be done for years. I do a lot more reading and filling up my library with more books.

I am a NASCAR fan, too. Junior is my driver, although I also like some of the lesser-known ones like John Andretti, Kenny Shrader, and Johnny Benson.

As for dealing with stress, I take a nap to clear my head, or crochet or read to lower my blood pressure. Once I have some space from the stressor, I can usually figure out how/what to do to deal with it.

Amy, Speaking of Kevin Harvick, I thought you would like to know that my son builds Kevin's cup cars down at Richard Childress Racing.
