Fun Tips!
I was so glad to read about Brian's benefit last weekend, and happy that it was a wonderful success! God has moved mightily in Brian and his family's lives, and its a joy and blessing to hear all the different ways He has answered prayer. I also want to thank all of you for your comments on Barbara's book trailer. It was fun to make and I know my brother appreciates hearing that you enjoy his music. Make sure you get a copy of her book when it hits the shelves!
A few weeks ago I asked everyone for their housecleaning tips--and you all delivered! There were tons of great advice for cleaning and keeping things tidy. I appreciated all the comments.
Today I thought I'd post a couple of simple, fun tips. They're not Amish, although the Amish could use a couple of them. So in honor of the family and the home, here are my tips, taken from Real Simple Magazine . If you have any tips you'd like to add (they don't have to be a particular type, just something that has to do with family and/or home) feel free to add a comment.
Here are 3 uses for old things:
1) Use parchment paper for cupcake liners instead of the frilly paper ones.
2) Drop your cell phone in the sink? Take out the battery and dry both it and the phone carefully, then place in a bowl of rice overnight. The rice will draw out the moisture.
3) If your belt's too long, use double-sided tape to secure it in place.
Other tips:
1) place a couple of used dryer sheets on the bottom of trash cans to absorb odors
2) line the bottom of the microwave with about ten paper towels, taking one off each time after you use it
3) use a small squeegee to wipe down shower doors after showering
And a couple quick ideas for pizza dough:
Fried Dough with Chocolate Sauce
Tear dough into 16 pieces. In a skillet, fry in 1/2 inch canola oil over medium heat until golden brown and cooked through. Dust with powdered sugar, serve with chocolate sauce.
Garlic Butter Rolls
Tear the dough into 12 pieces, place in the cups of a muffin tin. Divide 4 cloves of garlic, chopped, among the dough pieces, pressing them in the centers. Drizzle with olive oil and bake at 425 degrees until golden brown. Toss in a bowl of melted butter and chopped parsley, then season with salt.
'Til next time,
Kathleen

So glad you mentioned your brother's music in your blog today, Kathy! I was so excited about my book trailer last week and wanted to let everyone know you'd done it for me that I just wanted readers to rush over and look at it. I should have mentioned his name (Jimmie Daly) and how his music adds so much to the trailer. Thanks to a talented brother and sister!

I like your idea about using dryer sheets at the bottom of your trash can. I never thought of that. I do however have a couple of other uses for dryer sheets. I use them in the bottom of my clothing drawers, instead of sachets. Its cheaper and makes your clothes smell great. I also put one in the canister of my vaccuum in between emptying it. Makes it smell fresher when vaccuuming. My daughter uses them for her hair, believe it or not. In the cooler weather when she has alot of static and her hair is fly away, she actually takes a dryer sheet and smooths it down her hair. I have no idea where she learned that, but it does work believe it or not! I'm going to try your recipe for the garlic rolls today, sounds yummy!
