Another Book Giveaway!
Okay, so that is not the most original title but I can't think of anything else.
You see, it's so hot here in Florida that when I went out today to run an errand and then stopped by the Dairy Queen to get an ice cream cone, not only did my ice cream melt all over my hand in less than 10 steps from the pick up window to my car, but I think my brain fried (and I really needed it this afternoon because I'm working on Book 3 of the Quilts of Lancaster series).
So instead of some wordy column by me (see last week), I'm going to hold a contest to give away another Advance Reader Copy of A Time to Love due out in September (Abingdon Press). If you haven't seen the cover yet, just scroll down on the right side of this page. By the way, the book is available for pre-order now at Christianbooks.com, Amazon.com and other fine stores where you buy books. An expanded edition of An Amish Christmas, the "Christmas Bestseller" (by Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, and Barbara Cameron, with a new story by Kelly Long, published by Thomas Nelson) is also available for pre-order. It's due out in late August...End of commercial. : )
All you have to do is leave a comment here at AmishHearts.com (nowhere else) giving me a suggestion for a good item to give away to promote the book here on the site. So far, I've bought a basket of quilt supply stuff from my favorite quilt shop and a 1,000 piece puzzle with a beautiful photo of quilts hanging on a clothes line near a covered bridge in Lancaster County. I bought the puzzle at an Amish restaurant in Pinecrest, Florida. I figured that the puzzle ought to be a good way to hide indoors from the heat --or in the winter from the cold -- and assemble...don't you think?
Kathy had such a great idea to have entrants get an additional chance in her contest if they got someone to enter and say who told them about the contest that I'll do that, too!
So, I'm looking forward to your ideas about contests and promotional items for A Time to Love here. Good luck on the contest!

I think another quilt would be awesome, I know I would love to have one. But anything Amish would rock since we all seem to have a love for all things Amish!

Was thinking maybe a book signing in the town of the winner? If something like that could be done. Puzzles are great too.

How about these neat Olive Oil Lamp kits that you make small lanterns with pint sized mason jars (w/a handle) and they can read by candle light! We used some of these during a power outage this year, and were amazed at how much light they put out!!

I love the cover of your book " A Time To Love", can't wait to read it. I truly enjoy reading your books, you can almost feel yourself being taken away for the moment, while you are reading. I think you could add an Amish (learn how to quilt) quilting book to your basket.

I do LOVE these contests!! What about adding a quilt pattern packet (just the pattern, not fabric!) for a purse or bag. I have found several really easy, neat ones this summer- easy to make and useful- NOT expensive either, which is always nice!! My 20 year old even asked me to make her one, so I guess they appeal to all ages. I would love to win that basket- I bought a puzzle in Lancaster last Sept. and have had great fun putting it together.l Actually, our family sat working on in at Christmas and also on a family vacation. I can hardly wait for this series to come out!! Thank you for choosing quilts in your series title- they are near and dear to my heart. Keep writing. God keep you in His care as you continue to share your talents.

How about a cookbook of Amish recipes? We are reading about so many it might be fun to try to make some- chow chow?
I have already added a haystack supper to my menu and we love it every time!

I like the idea of giving away autographed books, and small articles handmade by the Amish. I like picture puzzles also; our family has done puzzles for as long as I can remember.
What about an apron, which would be lightweight to mail?

Hello Barbara, My idea is a book on the history of the Quilts.. The patterns are so wonderful but they do mean a lot. We often fall in love with the beautiful Quilt but don't know the meaning behind the patterns... There is a lot of history in them. They were used for many things.

Reading about the Amish is one of the things I enjoy most. So anything that has to do with them would be great for the give a way. A picture of Amish country would be a lovely gift. Their farms and homes are beautiful! They take such good care of their homes. Even driving by and seeing laundry on the clothes line is a beautiful sight to see!

What about a cute basket with the book and some coffee, tea, or hot chocolate mixes? Maybe a sweet smelling candle. Just something to set off a comfortable relaxing time of reading!

How about a quilted potholder(s) and/or pillows ? These items would be good for a giveaway and also safe from the summer heat.

What about a basket of Love. A sign book of course because we love all the Amish books and maybe the pattern for the quilt on the cover. As for my self any thing Amish makes me happy.

I always just love winning the author's books. Because I read them and then to help the author get known, I pass them to whom God shows me to give them to.
I also write reviews for them.
I love ink pens, maybe an Amish apron, Amish cookbook (I have two), and gift certificates.

I love books!! So a book is always a welcome item.But, if u wanted something different---an Amish wall hanging, an Amish doll, an Amish dish or I agree with another person I saw--an Amish cookbook. Love the pictures I have seen around but the only thing is they were very expensive. Don't know if u could get a cheaper one or not.

Since the name of the book is "A Time To Love", why not add a cute little "old-timey" wind-up clock? Also, I know from experience that working with fabric is drying to the hands. A non-greasy moisturizing hand soap and lotion would make a nice addition.

I can't think of any good ideas for contests, but for a promotional idea how about something with the scripture on it from Ecclesiastes "to everything there is a season; a time to love..." and so forth.

Well my suggestion would be add a few Homemade Ice Cream recipes in the basket. That way we could read your book in the house or perhaps a shade tree while we eat Homemade Ice Cream (recipe from the Amish) and then when we are finsih prehaps work on a quilt with the scraps to use this winter as we reread your book again. I would love a chance to read your book A Time to Love. Thanks for offering us a chance to win. All of you ladies treat us readers so well and thats why we appreciate all you do for us. I just love the books I have read and I can't wait to read the rest. I collect books on the Amish and have every one I can find. I live in a county in Kentucky where dozens of Amish families live and one of my good friends is Amish. I am just enamored by their simple lifestyle and wish mine could be that way. I might suggest some type of Amish-made handcrafted item or some Amish-made preserves, relishes, etc., or perhaps some type of Amish clothing like a small child's gown, Kapp, straw hat, etc., or even a child's handmade doll. That would be wonderful for anyone's Amish decorative items.

I and my husband have fell in love with Amish books, that is about all the books we read besides the Bible anymore. A giveaway~~~I think a signed copy of your new book, with a basket of Amish made things in it.
Of course I would LOVE a quilt even if it was a lap size.
A pillow or potholders, etc.
Looks like you all have some very good books coming out. I am so glad. It will fill up are long winter days.
