First Reviews of A Time to Love

The first endorsement reviews of A Time to Love came in this week from two wonderful fellow authors.

On Monday, Beth Wiseman wrote in this blog about the book. and I so appreciated her taking the time out of an incredibly busy schedule to read the book and say such nice things about it. You can read her blog by scrolling back a few days on the site.

Then Sandra Bricker also sent me her thoughts on the book and I wanted to share them with you. Just last week my blog was called, "Let's Have a Cup of Tea." I'd already gotten Sandie's endorsement review of the book and I meant to put it in my blog because it was the perfect place for it in that entry about the Scripture Tea. I think her mention of tea in the endorsement and my seeing the Scripture Tea in Cracker Barrel a few days later gave me the idea for the blog. But I'd just finished a really good day of writing and did too much with that and a doctor visit and errands so by the time I wrote the blog I had few brain cells left!

Here's what Sandie sent me after she read the book:

"Barbara Cameron's A Time to Love is a captivating, poignant and delightful story. Cameron weaves a masterful character portrayal in Jenny King, an injured war correspondent whose physical and emotional baggage from the outside world meets its match within a small Amish community. The writing is fresh, the setting is realistic, and the revelations are universal. If you think Amish stories aren't your cup of tea, think again and pick up this book!"

Sandie is the award-winning author of wonderful, laugh-out-loud romantic fiction including The Big 5-Oh! and this fall's Always the Baker, Never the Bride. A third title, Love Finds You in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, will be out in October. I've read a number of Sandie's books including The Big 5-Oh! (funny and heartwarming) but I have to say my personal favorite is Always the Baker, Never the Bride. I love weddings -- I've helped planning quite a number and was even asked to write The Everything Weddings on a Budget book so I loved the setting and the cast of characters in Always. I wasn't sure if Sandie would like A Time to Love because I didn't know if she read Amish stories. When she sent the endorsement she admitted that they weren't usually her cup of tea but had been surprised to discover she liked my story.

So, I'm so happy to see these first reviews and thank you Beth and Sandie!

On the subject of tea, the winner of last week's contest for a box of Scripture Tea is Connie Elrod. Hope you enjoy the tea, Connie!

Oh, and one more note: my marketing person is sending me a few more Advance Reading Copies of A Time to Love. So be sure to enter a comment here on the site telling me why YOU like Amish stories for a chance to win a copy of A Time to Love!

Blessings,

Barbara

I sent you a comment, but I am unsure if you have received it. I wanted to express how much I love reading Amish stories. I feel God's presence when I read these stories. I find each story refreshing, motivating and incredibly motivating. The feeling is just so hard to express or explain. I feel like I am actually part of the story and I always feel a special connection with the main characters . Once I start reading a story I find it difficult to put the book down.

It has been a while since I have read anything by Barbara Cameron. I really enjoy her writing and it would be an honor to be able to be among the first to read her newest novel "A Time to Love".

After reading Linda Castillo's "Sworn To Silence", I need a tender, loving, heartfelt romance novel. Linda's novel was excellent but I want to go from thrills and chills to warm and fuzzy.

    Thank you, Martha Staton

    Barbara,
Excited to read your new novel - A Time To Love. I enjoy reading all Amish/Mennonite stories because they transport me to a different place. I always feel at peace when reading one of these novels. We travel to Lancaster, PA from Massachusetts in May and September each year for the peace and tranquility this area of the country offers.

    Barbara,
I live in south Mississippi and it is such a blessing to read the heart-warming stories of the Amish. I love reading about the snow and cold weather... which we seldom experience. You make everything "come alive" when you describe the Amish country. I love the uncomplicated life of the Amish. I think we all would do well to take some lessons from them in simplifying our lives. I highly respect their Christian values and the fact that the parents instill these values in their children at an early age. It is hard to specify exactly what I like most about Amish stories...I like everything! They touch and bless my heart and I hope you continue to write these wonderful Amish stories. May God richly bless you as you continue to write. Betty

I think I like Amish fiction because the Amish life style is so totally unique and different from ours. And I'm fascinated how they can use customs from hundreds of years ago. Although I do find that even the Amish are embracing the modern world more than they used to. I have read Amish fiction books where the Amish (living in modern times) felt indoor plumbing was worldly. I am re-reading No Strange Fire, which is an excellent novel full of details of the Amish life.

I have been interested in the Amish for decades, but I never realized there was such a thing as Amish fiction until several years ago when I saw Beverly Lewis' first book. Well, I bought it, read it (not realizing it was book 1 in a series)and could not wait for the next book. Since then I have found so many other Amish authors and just love them all.
The reason I enjoy all the books is because when I read I want to have a good story and not have to worry about reading smutty sex scenes or violence. I am so glad that I found Amish and Christian fiction authors!!!
Congrats to Connie for winning the tea. Hope she enjoys along with a good book.

I love Amish and Christian Fiction authors because they uplift and encourage me. I also like to review them on about 8 sites and then pass them on to others to be blessed. I have recently begun to put them in the jail to get the gospel to the women there.

Why do I like Amish fiction? Well, I have always had a keen interest in the Amish culture, which is why I picked up my 1st Amish fiction book. However after reading that 1st one I was hooked because I felt a spiritual pull and just felt that I needed more and couldn't get enough. I agree that they are wonderful stories, clean and romantic, where you can get away from the craziness and hectic life, but the inspiration that they give me is special. I have definitely found myself feeling better spiritually because of reading these wonderful books.
