Blue Skies
I'm so grateful that Hurricane Earl bypassed Florida!
The sky was such a beautiful, clear blue today. I said a prayer of gratitude that the threat of a hurricane is gone. I don't want any other state to experience problems but many of us here in this state were slammed with not one but three hurricanes a half dozen or so years ago and we're still kind of paranoid about hurricane season. I have been so relieved to have that worry and stress off my shoulders...
A neighbor who became a friend came over to run an errand with me today, took one look at me, and wanted to know what I was so stressed about. Well, it's a long story and no one needs to hear my whine about it but it's just been an exceptionally busy week and I was having trouble with something important on the computer. She's so good at talking with me about a situation and shedding some light and wisdom on it. And she and her husband are always so quick to help me in a jam. Once I left my garage door open (or it opened itself?) and I found the door leading into the house unlocked. I went next door to call the police and wait with them. Mary and her husband grabbed brooms and came over with me to look for intruders -- not my idea but you have to love people like that. Mary is so good about selflessly helping me with something. I try not to take advantage. My dogs worship her because she comes over to let them out when I have to be away. Emily actually sits in the yard by Mary's fence and waits for her to come out and spend some time with her. If Mary doesn't notice her husband will let her know. I said a prayer of gratitude after she left today because she really helped me with two things I couldn't figure out on the computer. I met Mary when I was on the cell phone calling a realtor about my house. I think I bought the house because I wanted to live next to someone like Mary.
The response to last week's contest was so gratifying! Thank you to everyone who entered and wrote such wonderful comments. Barbara Bell won the brand new copy of A Time to Love (first book of the Quilts of Lancaster County, Abingdon Press, out now) AND An Amish Christmas, Expanded Edition. She wrote such a cute comment: "Double contest? Double excitement! Double characters! Double the envy for the winner. Hope it's me that would be double the fun!"
I hope that you have nothing but blue skies this Labor Day weekend!
Blessings,
Barbara

Hey, Well, you certainly have been blessed living there, and I was so happy to read your news re Mary, the house not being damaged, and the help with the computer. May His favor go on and on in so many other ways for you too.
Love you and your writing,
