It’s Contest Time! Win a Copy of A Plain & Simple Christmas!
To celebrate the release of A Plain & Simple Christmas, I’m running a contest!
In order to win a copy of my new book, please post your favorite Christmas memory here at Amish Hearts.
I’ll start off with my favorite memory. I grew up in New Jersey, and my grandparents lived just a few blocks away. Since my grandparents celebrated Christmas in the German tradition, they opened their gifts Christmas Eve. They would tell me that “Santa’s helpers” stopped by with gifts for my cousins and me and I would open my gifts from them at their house on Christmas Eve. It was always magical for me to find out what Santa’s helpers had left for me at Nana’s house!
Now, it’s your turn! What is your favorite Christmas memory?
I’ll announce the two winners next Saturday. Please leave a comment today!
Blessings,
Amy

I have wonderful memories of New Jersey Christmases too! My favorite Christmas memory is the year my husband proposed to me! Christmas 2004 with my parent and brother and my soon to be mother in law present on my favorite day of the year. Perfection!

My dad had been overseas for 6 months, he was a sailor, and we waited for him to come home before opening our gifts. Seeing him come home with his bag over his shoulder and special presents for my brothers and sister and me and mom, that made Christmas for me..

My favorite Christmas tradition with my family is sitting on Christmas Eve, looking at the tree all lit up and staying up late to help my mom wrap presents for all my little brothers and sisters.

My favorite Christmas when the first of my 3 nieces and nephew was born. She's now 29 years old and married a year. There's nothing like Christmas with a child! I have no children of my owm so these four have always been very special to me. We always play games after Christmas dinner and everyone looks forward to that more than any other part of the day!

My favorite Christmas memory is from Dec. 25, 1994. I was due to have a baby on Dec. 21, but of couse my mom told me it would come on Christmas which I said No way!! So we were sitting at the kitchen table and I was eating an orange and didn't feel good and my father said he was going on a ride on his motorcycle, needless to say I was in labor and didn't know it. Well, to make a long story short, dad came home and I was gone, He asked mom where Chrystal was, she said on the way to the hospital, 2 hours after I left there house, I had given birth to a beautiful baby girl, named Jeanna Erin!! It's hard to believe that this year she will be 16 years old already!!

I remember my parents use to bring a few girls home for Christmas from the local orphanage (my mom volunteered at a baby orphanage so I think that is why they let us bring girls home). So we would each choose one of them to shop for and we would buy things they had on their list and some surprises. They would spend the day with us... opening presents, eating brunch and dinner and playing games.... experience home life with a normal family. I felt I got more out of it than they did! I often wonder if they were ever placed.. I sincerely hope so!!!

We always went to my fathers (my grandparents) home for Christmas. Grandma was a nurse and always had goodies and wonderful fudge people had given her. She always served cranberry jelly. It was this wonderful round shape. Just like it could have come from a can.LOL Turkey and fresca. Grandpa always had to hang his stocking to. And he always had a treat. Ours always had a orange in the toe. We would dress to the nines with my Aunt and her family that traveled every year from Mich. Wonderful memories.

My best Christmas was my worst Christmas too. It was the year that my great aunt who i was very close to had died. She died on Christmas Eve and although i missed her i knew she was enjoying Christmas rather than surviving through it as she had been so ill with cancer

My favorite Christmas memory is from 9 years ago. My husband had lost his job that paid well and we were now living on 65% less than before. We talked to our children and decided that we were very blessed even though we didn't have the same amount of money. We decided to give each other home-made gifts and spend our money on someone else who was less fortunate. We decided on doing "The 12 days of Christmas" to a family that was experiencing a hard time. We planned and plotted, deciding who was going to go deliver the goodies to the family, what time would be the best to go so we wouldn't get caught. We successfully completed our mission and delivered all 12 days without being caught. Our six children learned great lessons of love and sacrifice, but they grew closer together, and learned that it is better to give than receive. Since that year, no matter our financial situation, we have done a "12 days Christmas" to a family each year. How blessed I am to have children who now are the ones reminding me that we need to "plan out" this years mission.

My current favorite Christmas memory was last year's Christmas. We didn't have much money, so couldn't afford to go out and buy many gifts. I sewed tiny aprons and turbie twists for our two little girls and it was such fun to see them pull them out of their stockings Christmas morning. I like to give my husband coupon books, good for a batch of homemade cookies, a massage, etc. =) The best memories for me are the ones made with love, not money.

2008 My husband and I had moved from NYC to South West Georgia, I was 9 months pregnant, NO STORES were open. We were short on cash no gifts to exchange. We spent the day lazing around, thanking GOD for his goodness. Dinner time rolled around and I opened the cabinets, we had macaroni and cheese and brown rice for dinner. 3 weeks later we were blessed with the best gift (besides salvation) we could ask for, our precious little girl! It was one of the best Christmases!

My favorite Christmas memory is so special because of what the tradition was. My Mom would get our gifts, wrap them and put "from Mom and Dad on them (except for the ones that came from "Santa" lol.) One Christmas, the girls all got ankle bracelets from my Dad, wrapped and labeled by him. It was very special. I really couldn't tell you any other gift that meant as much to me. He passed away at a young age and I still miss him very much.

I was very, very lucky to have wonderful holidays with my family. My mother and I lived with her parents, and the four of us were a "family unit". Mama could sing and play piano. She said she "played by ear". I always teased her about adding extra notes to the music! My grandmother was the greatest cook ever, and we had so many good things to eat! My grandfather was a "Christmas Tree Specialist". He and I always picked out the tree, and he very precisely added the lights. Then we added the ornaments (and I mean all the ornaments). The silver icicles had to placed on the tree one by one. More than once, I got scolded for throwing little handfuls of icicles at random. Hey...I was a kid! I have to admit, they were beautiful trees. Paw Paw knew what he was doing! He also taught me that if you have more than you need, you have enough to share. He worked with a man who had a large family, so I passed some of my clothes and toys along to them each year. My Granny filled the house with edible delights. Fruitcake, fudge, cookies, country ham, homemade rolls, pies, turkey & dressing, mashed potatoes & gravy, veggies & salads...how could we even move! We also had a "gumdrop tree". Our stockings were filled with tangerines, peppermints, nuts and chocolates. The scent of Christmas is truly a magical fragrance! I love Christmas, and I carry the spirit of Christmas in my heart all year long. Remember the reason for the season.

I actually have 2 favourite Christmas memories! The first was my husband and my first Christmas together. We were in Tucson, AZ which isn't known for snow in the valley but it began snowing on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning we got up and there were 6" of the beautiful white snow on the ground. I teased my husband it was due to his being an Eskimo in the "desert"!
My second favourite memory is the year my oldest was born. He was only 12 days old on Christmas and we have pictures of him under the tree!

Wow, my favorite Christmas memory ...As the youngest of four children, whose father was a local police officer and mom dressed the JC Penney store window, there wasn't alot of money for gifts...But a family tradition held us as one. Every Sunday night we, as a family would gather around the dining table for Advent study. Year after year the same text, the same carols, the same Bible versus, the same figures to place in the manger scene but that didn't matter we gathered and studied the Christmas story keeping CHRIST in Christmas. As time went on we eventually got involved in youth groups and church choir that took us away from this practice, but I honestly believe it helps me today with the rule of gift giving to my child at Christmas. The three Kings brought baby Jesus three gifts, therefore you receive only three gifts to celebrate Jesus's birthday!

My favorite Christmas was when my daughter was about 5...about 2:30 a.m. she was waking us up to tell us Santa had come, we had to get up and be happy and excited. she got a canoti (canopy) bed, strawberry shortcake things and she was so happy in the wee hours of the morning. we finally went back to bed and got up the next morning to celebrate with her again. and when our son came along, he just wanted the wrapping paper and boxes. He had the happiest smile. now we are making memories with our children and two granddaughters. God is good.

My favorite Christmas memory is about my dog, Grimace. I lost Grimace this year on 2/16/10, but every year right before Christmas I would say, "Grimace, who's coming? Is it Santa Claus? Is he going to bring you a present?" And every time, Grimace would run to the door and look. And I would say, "No, he's not here yet!" LOL! I will miss Grimace so much this year at Christmas.

I guess my favorite Christmas as a child would be when our family traveled to West Virginia to be with my grandparents for Christmas. It was such a nice way to spend the holidays being with family and sharing a good meal together and just feeling the love that was shared. If we could only hold that love and feeling of Christmas year round and remeber the birth of Christ is what it is all about.

My favorite Christmas memory was of when I was a little girl about 12 years old. My oldest brother had left home to go to Chicago to get a job because there were no jobs here except working underground in the coal mines. He had been gone for about 6 months. We missed so much. He surprised us with a visit on Christmas Day loaded down with toys for all of us! Mom and Dad had 11 children including him and there were presents for everyone, including Mom and Dad. His gift to me was my first bride doll. She was the most beautiful bride doll in the whole world! She stood about 3 feet tall! I treasured her for many years, but I treasure the memory of that Christmas most of all.

My favorite Christmas memory is of my now 7 year old grandson. His mom was a single mom shortly after his birth so they spent every Christmas at my home. When my daughter remarried she wanted them to have Christmas at their home but my grandson who was 4 at the time insisted they have Chrismas at "Nana's" because I have a chimney and Santa couldn't find him at their home. Every year we feed the reindeers magic food (oats and glitter) to help them fly and then he cks my chimney before leaving Santa his snack. Oh, by the way, My chimney isn't real....it's a gas insert. I dread the day he discovers that

In 2005 or 2006 we had an extremely rare White Christmas in southeast Texas. The Gulf Coast was covered with snow. It was as if God gave us our own special gift that morning. My children had never seen snow before so that made it extra magical. (Now we live in Colorado but snow has not lost its "magical-ness".)

My fondest Christmas memory is the last one that I spent with my mother who was terminal with cancer. I was expecting that year and this would be my mother's last grandchild and it was her wish that she live long enough to see the baby. My daughter was born in September and my mother made it to Christmas and the joy on her face to be able to see all her children and grandchildren together on last time was priceless.

My favorite memory is going to church as a family, reading the Christmas story , then we opened our gift and had special snacks. Every year I would receive a brand new baby doll!! Maybe this doesn't sound very special, but to me, as a child, it was the highlight to my year!!

My Christmas memory is from 2008. 7 months earlier my family lost our home in a tornado that destroyed over 200 houses in our town. Ladies from a nearby town who years before had been in a tornado, had a holiday party for the women in my town. We had a dinner, entertainment & were presented with hundreds of new Christmas and winter decorations. We were able to use those new decorations for our 1st Christmas in our new home.

One of my favorite memories is when I worked for The salvation Army. I got to play Santa for some of the children Homes and some of the less fortuneate families. Tell me that want make you cry. Just to see that a doll or a truck brought so much happiness was unbelieveable. I think of our children today and all that they expect for christmas and I cry and think if they only knew the true meaning of christmas...its better to give than to receive and that its God;s Birthday and we should give gifts to the church. My son gives to the church. He buys kleenex, paper towels, cleaning supplies toilet paper and etc. and gives it too the church as a gift giving to Jesus Home. He also picks a boy and a girl off the angel tree and buys them 3 gifts each. Thas is counted as one of His
. gifts for christmas. But that s oka with him, These are only a few memories I have.

So many memories growing up, but as an adult my favorite one has to be the birth of my first grandchild. Caylee was born on Dec.22--my birthday! What a wonderful b-day and Christmas gift!! She came home on Dec 24 and spent her first Christmas at Grammy's house and every Christmas since then for the past 10 yrs. Along with her brother, also a Christmas gift(born Dec 16th) six years ago. Even though they are Christmas time b-days, we are sure to celebrate their birthdays separately to make them special.

My favorite Christmas time was when I didn't have money to buy ornaments to put on the tree, so I told my girls that we could make our own ornaments and they said we have nothing. I told them "yes" we do we have plenty of hickory nuts out side. So we all went out and gathered hickory nuts and brought them in and sat down with markers and glue and string and make our own Christmas tree. So making something together and being together makes a better Christmas than going out and buying something for the tree. I still have those hickory nuts and it always reminds me of the good times with my girls.

I think it was the year my son was 3 years old. On Christmas morning he came running into my bedroom, excitedly saying, "He DID come, Mommy; Santa Claus DID come!" I don't know if he was just old enough for the first time to really get caught up in Christmas, or what, but he was so excited to find that Santa had indeed come!

My favorite memory is when my grandma was still alive and all the cousins, aunts and uncles would gather in her tiny house that my Swedish grandfather built himself. We had Korv, Swedish meatballs and other Swedish foods while huddled together playing cards and board games. We also opened presents after all our tummies were full.

My favorite Christmas memory is from December of 2002. That was the year I got the most presious gift I could ever imagin. My Son, Michael, gave me one of his kidneys. We were schedualed for our surgury for sometime near the end of January 2003. I recieved a call from the trasnplant team stating they had an open date on the 19th of December. To keep this short: we checked in on the 18; the transplant was completed; and we we home on the 23rd of December to celebrate with our family. I thank God & my Son for my life. Even though I lost the new kideny due to a bout with Ecoli, I still thank Mike for the most unselfish and presious gift ever. The gift of life.

Can I leave another memory -- even if it doesn't give me another chance to win?
The year my daughter was a freshman in high school, she had just begun taking art. When we opened gifts on Christmas Even, she saved mine for last. Completely hidden from me, she had done a 16" x 20" pencil drawing of herself from a photo taken when she was about 18 months old. She said she knew she had done well when I started crying after I saw the gift! She has made money doing several drawings in the eight years since then, and her quality has drastically improved. But that one will always be a treasure because it was her first and was so personal!

All our Christmas decorations were stuff other people threw away. But our house was decorated every year even though my parents could not afford but one gift. All my gifts from my Grandmas were homemade gifts. But my daughters still have some of the Barbie doll clothes my one Grandma made me and my granddaughter is playing with them.
The highlight of our Christmas was on Christmas Eve going around a 6 block radius regardless of weather and walking around and looking at everyone else's decorations.

My favorite Christmas memory is the ability to help someone who needs help financially and wont ask. Why you may ask? For me my birthday falls 4 days after Christmas. My younger sisters birthday is the 31st 2 days after mine. So growing up I felt cheated on birthdays and Christmas. My sister and I always celebrated our birthdays on the 30. Ten years ago I made a decision along with the new man in my life that since both of our birthdays are in December that we would give our birthdays away to someone special. To share something whether it is money or food brings us more joy than us celebrating our Birthdays and Christmas together. For our family we have Christmas year round and brings more joy than just one day of the year.

My parents always made Christmas special, and after my sons were born I wanted to make it just as special for them. When my sons were just 3 years old and 11 months, their father left us. I had been a stay at home mom for the past 3 years. It was hard to make ends meet, and I didn't think I would be able to make much of a Christmas for my children. I baked lots of cookies and made Christmas candy and popcorn balls during the whole month of December. I borrowed a television from my brother who was in the Army (he told me to keep it) so we could watch all the holiday specials. As an early Christmas present to my boys and myself, I found a VCR on sale just after Thanksgiving, and then my parents surprised me and paid half. I had purchase an artificial tree at a yard sale for $2. Everyone told me it was the ugliest tree they had ever seen, but my boys and I thought it was beautiful. I scrimped and saved all autumn and had enough money to buy each of the boys a pair of new pajamas and wrapped them to put under the tree from me, and two gifts each from "Santa" as well as goodies for their stockings. After the boys were tucked in bed, I transformed our living room into an enchanted Christmas dream with every decoration we had. I had thought we wouldn't have a Christmas, but the looks on their faces as they saw the tree the next morning was magic! This is my favorite Christmas memory!

Beth...I am almost 50 yrs. old, so I am sure you can imagine that I have many, many wonderful Christmas memories. But I have to honestly say that the memory that is closest to my heart at this stage of my life is the last Christmas that I was lucky enough to share with my mother before she was taken away very quickly by esophageal cancer. I can remember that Christmas like it was yesterday...I was 30 years old and it had been a rough year for me. I was divorced with a 9 yr old son, going to school at night and working 60 hours a week for minimum wage just to keep my head above water. I went to my parents house Christmas Eve where my son opened his presents and we laughed and had a great time. Late that night after everyone else was asleep, my mom and I sat on the couch in the dark room, watching the lights on the tree twinkle and listening to my mom's favorite singer (Nat King Cole) singing songs from his Christmas album. Sitting there in the silence with my mom was so special to me.....We talked about insignificant things, but in that silence I felt how much she loved me, and how much I truly loved her back. It's hard to explain, but I will NEVER forget that time we spent together that night. For all the things we DIDN'T say...I could just feel the love we shared, and the close bond that we had although we had never really talked about it. Every Christmas as I now sit in the dark watching my own tree twinkle in the dark - I always will have that moment with my mom....and although she is no longer here with me - I still get that wonderful feeling just like she was that night. I will never forget it as long as I live.

One of my favorite Christmas memories was the last one I got to share with my mother. It was a bittersweet time. I had flown back to Vancouver to help dad and mom. Mom had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and was very sick with pneumonia. My husband and daughter were in Arizona. Though I was away from my husband and daughter and missing them, I was back home taking care of my mother. It was a joy for me to be able to care for her in her time of need. Christmas was a simple affair. We had roast chicken, potatoes and veggies. Little did I know that would be the last one with mom. Though we didn't exchange any gifts, we did share memories of earlier Christmas's. It was a time of blessing one another and thanking the Lord for His infinite grace. She went home to be with Him Feb. 8, 1998.

My favorite Christmas was when I was in my high school latin club celebration. We all bought generic gifts or white elephant gifts and had a chinese gift exchange. This is where you choose someone in the group to go pick out a gift and open it, then the next person has the choice of opening a gift or taking a gift from the other participants. It was a lot of fun and hilarious. I think I got left with a set of stars and stripes boxer shorts, which really embarressed me and were too small. But the point was to have fun.

I don't have many happy memories of Christmases growing up. My favorite is of my daughter. Our first Christmas after moving to Texas from Ohio I was missing snow & family & "home"! She had her daddy take her to the fabric store & buy a BIG sheet of white felt. Christmas morning she beat me to the living room & spread the white felt all over the floor out there. Then sprinkled paper snowflakes she had cut out of paper all over it. When I walked into the room she said she was giving me a White Christmas. I still tear up when thinking of that Christmas morning. What a special gift from a special little girl.

My favorite Christmas memory will be this one coming up. My uncle is having surgery in a couple of days to reverse his colostomy in his bowels. I just had surgery to remove my gallbladder. The reason this coming Christmas will be my favorite memory is because all my family here in my household will be here and healthy, including my uncle. So I pray that he will make it through this major surgery so he can celebrate christmas with the family.

MY Christmas memories are of my parents being divorced and my mom not having much money. Every year this elderly man from our church would give me and my brother a box of chocolate covered cherries with a silver dollar taped on top. It helped us have a great Christmas.

My favorite Christmas memory began in childhood and continues today: worshiping together on Christmas Eve. Communion was served toward the end of the service with only a few candles providing light. Then we would light our individual candles and sing "Silent Night." This symbolic gesture of Christ, the Light of the World, never fails to give me chills. The only change is that, as an adult, I play the piano for this beautiful service.
This Christmas Eve will be even more special because my daughter, who serves as a missionary in Germany, will be with us for the first time in three years.

My favorite Christmas memory was Christmas 2004. We had just found out that my brothers 2nd Liver transplant was successful and that his baby boy, who was premature, was going to be released from the hospital the day after Christmas. My other brothers and I thought that it would have been perfect if our parents could have come home from Africa for Christmas. They surprised us on Christmas day by showing up on my doorstep! That was the best Christmas memory.

My favorite Christmas memory was when I was about 6 or 7 years old and my dad wanted to make sure I got a bicycle that year even though I was too short to reach the pedals. I still laugh about that. I finally did grow into it though. My mom said he wanted to do that and he did. He was an awesome dad, and I miss him so much. He went to be with the Lord 19 years ago and it is hard even now. But, anyway, that was my best one.

My favorite Christmas memory is actually the whole Christmas season, from Christmas Eve to New Years Day. My Mom and/or Dad always took us to visit our aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and cherished friends. Sometimes during the day and almost every evening we went to visit someone very dear. It was always fun to see their Christmas tree, sample their Christmas goodies and wish them a Merry Christmas.

Probably my favorite Christmas memory may seem kind of hokey for some, but it didn't take it long to become a tradition. When I was younger, we always got together with my dad's side of the family on Christmas Eve and with my mom's on Christmas Day. One year we went to my dad's sister's house for dinner and she had made Brown Sugar Pies, but they were all gone by the time my dad went to get a piece. (They were my father's favorite pie of all time.) The following year, just as soon as we went into her house, my dad entered the kitchen where all the "womenfolk" were finishing up dinner and he stuck his right pointer finger in his mouth and then sunk it right in the middle of a Brown Sugar Pie. He said, "Let's see someone eat some of that one now". Of course, no one touched it, except for my dad, and he got to take the leftovers of that one home. From that year on, whenever we arrived at my aunt's house for Christmas Eve festivities, she would greet my dad at the backdoor where he would stick his finger in his mouth and sink it in a pie. Everyone would be standing around to watch and laugh when he did it. My father has since passed away, as well as my aunt, but that is probably one of the best Christmas memories I have and it always brings tears to my eyes when I think of it. Every now and then, I make a brown sugar pie, but I really can't eat much of it because I always think of my dad and end up crying.

My favorite Christmas memory was the year I got chicken pox. We were visiting my grandparents and everyone but my dad and I went to church. While we were away Santa usually came. This year my dad and I put out the gifts. My sister was still little enough to believe and she was in awe that I "heard" Santa come into the house. It was a special Chirstmas, even with the chicken pox!

My favorite Christmas memory was that every Christmas Eve my Mom's family would gather at our house for a family meal and then my 2 cousins and I would get to open our gifts from each other and our grandparents. It took my mom, aunt and grandmother FOREVER to wash all the dishes after the meal so that we could open our gifts. I miss that time so much! My dad, grandparents and aunt are all in heaven now and the cousins all live too far apart to get together for Christmas Eve. I just praise God for those wonderful memories!

Amy,
Living in Tucson, AZ, my favorite Christmas memory is the Christmas Eve it actually snowed in our yard. The children insisted they saw Santa's sleigh marks in our front yard on Christmas morning! It was a wonderful Christmas treat!

The Christmas before we got married, my fiance gave me a Christmas tree ornament that had "Our First Christmas Together" written on it. That was my favorite ornament that year and has been for the past 30 years.

My favorite Christmas memory took place in 2004..the last Christmas with my dad.. my brothers and I surprised him with a new waterbed mattress. He could not believe anyone would think of such a thing. But the best was when we all sang songs and acted goofy, videotaping all our antics.. now this is the best video of all times.. we laugh and then cry a the memories of my dad with his grandchildren and of course me..his only girl.

My favorite Christmas memory is the year of 1989. I just graduated from high school, and my husband and I just started dating. He used to be Amish, but he left at the age of 18 when his parents passed.
It was so great to hear about his Amish life, and our first Christmas together was amazing. We have been happily married now for 14 year's, and his Amish stories still amaze me.

My best christmas ever was when i was 7or 8 years old. My family had the family get together but this one was different. My dad came dressed up like santa. We all the kids that is thought that we had the real santa there. when we did our gift exchange santa (my dad) handed out the gifts we thought santa had brought everyone a gift. It was great. We could not sleep that night thinking santa was at our house. Like the song goes Mommy really did kiss santa. But learned the true meaning of Christmas That it was Christ birthday. But it was the best christmas i can remember. I don't think i will ever forget it.

My favorite Christmas is recently. My husband and I have been married two years, and on our first Christmas together, we bought our then 15 year old daughter an American Revolutionary War documentary series. When we wrapped this gift, we had fun! We took heavy textbooks from my husbands old biomed class and big, medium, and small boxes, then wrapped each of these boxes individually. On Christmas morning when she picked up the box she couldn't lift it because it was heavy; and the fun she had unwrapping all of those boxes! What fun we had that Christmas morning!!

One of my favorite memories is going Christmas caroling with my friends. One of the people we sang for invited us in for cookies and cider. It was a really fun time.

My favorite Christmas was in 1961, when I received the "Little Red Spinning Wheel" as a gift. I'd say that little toy helped get me started in making hand-crafted gifts for family and friends!

My favorite Christmas Memory was one when we lived in Michigan. My mom was there, my Uncle and two aunts, plus four of my children (one wasn't born yet). It was so exciting and festive to have the whole family together. And it was the last time... my mom and my uncle have both gone home to glory.
I would love to win this book - and I would be glad to review this book... or if you are looking for an influencer.....

My favorite chirstmas memory is being at my parents house on Christmas eve, we would have dinner, and open gifts together. The grandkids would all sit on grandpa's lap to have pictures taken. I'm so glad that we have those pictures now, my dad has passed after fighting cancer, but every Christmas the grandkids still sit in the chair that was his and have pictures taken.

One of the best Christmas memories was at the same time sad in retrospect. It was one of the last Christmases I spent with my Mother as I went to live with my Father shortly after that.
We lived on a Farm on the west side of the the state o...f MI. Mom didn't have much money and she had done her shopping in town at the 5&10. She was able to get craft things that I thought were wonderful. But as Christmas was getting closer she was fretting about what we would get and if it was enough.
Then a few days before Christmas 3 or 4 boxes came from my Grandparents. They were filled with gaily wrapped presents with yarn ribbons. To a 5 year old it was as if Santa had already come and each present was magic.
I don't remember any of the presents that I recieved that year except one. It was a needlepoint kit that my Mom had gotten from the 5&10. With it I could make a towel doing a simple stich. I always wondered if Mom knew how much that simple present meant when compared with all of the packages that we got from other people.

I have many fond Christmas memories, but my fondest is Christmas 1999. My first son was born on December 22, four weeks early, but he did well and we brought him home on Christmas Eve. As we were not expecting him so soon, we had nothing ready for his first Christmas, but a quick trip to Hallmark by my mom got him his first Christmas ornament, and some glue and glitter made him a Christmas stocking, and we celebrated a wonderful Christmas with our new little one. Adding to the joy of that Christmas, on Christmas Eve my brother proposed to his high school sweetheart, and she accepted. They have been married now for seven years.

Wow, this is tough. Like a lot of you, I have alot of favorite Christmas memories. But my husband proposed to me on Christmas Eve and that will have to be my most favorite. He wrapped up my engagement ring in a super large box with a store catalog wrapped up with it so I would wonder what that "large, heavy box" was. But when I opened it, there was a beautiful diamond solitaire ring. Love it!

My favorite Christmas memory is the last one I ever spent with my mother. She had been fighting gallbladder cancer for 5 months and my dad and sisters and I knew that Christmas would be our last one with her. She was so sick on Christmas day that we had to postpone our Christmas until December 31st when she felt a little better. She was so sick and in so much pain but she wanted to have that time with us. She was determined to give us that last Christmas. We spent all day together, soaking up the memories, we took pictures of her and my dad and her with us and the grandchildren. The picture we took of her and my daddy is the last one we have of them together and every time I look at it, I am taken back to that day. Exactly one month later on January 31, 2006 my mother went home to be with Jesus. I would have to say that my favorite Christmas memory is my worst Christmas memory as well.

My favorite Christmas memory is the first Christmas with my first child. My husband and I had wanted babies for so long and had never been fortunate enough to have any. We finally applied to adopt a baby. I had been teaching but was required to quit work before they would place a baby with us. I had to commit to being a full time mother. So, when we finally got her, it was a dream come true. Christmas was all the more special since we had never had a baby in the house. It made such a difference to decorate and watch the wonder in her eyes. It was definitely my Christmas Miracle!

My favorite christmas memory in when i was growing up.On Christmas eve my mom would set out all the goodies she had made and a simple punch of sherbert and white soda pop.Friends and neighbors and family would get together and just enjoy the time together. Lots of good food and fun. This memory is more precious to me now because both my parents had passed and this will be the first Christmas without my mom.

My memory is a very recent one, but it relates to Christmas! The other day, a friend of mine from college told me that the boy she has a crush on had invited her to spend Christmas with her family. I told my boyfriend this story and commented on how crazy the idea was - they weren't even dating! "I mean, even you wouldn't invite me to spend Christmas with you and we've been dating for six months," I said. Simon began to look rather embarrassed, and admitted that actually, he would invite me over to spend time with his family. I felt bad for suggesting that this was a ridiculous idea, then began badgering him for details. "Were you really planning on inviting me?" I asked. He shrugged, and then said "Yes, I was."
In Scotland, where I live, Christmas tends to be a very close, family-orientated event and generally outsiders aren't invited unless a couple is engaged or someone doesn't have any family nearby to stay with. So the fact that Simon wants me to spend Christmas with him made me realise that he truly considers me to be part of his family now. We just have to figure out a way of seeing each other at Christmas that won't offend either of our huge extended families!

I would have to say that the best Christmas for me was when I was about 7 yrs old I had told my parents I wanted a Miss Beasley doll. Well that year I got one and that was such a cool doll to me. What really made it Christmas though for me was my whole family being together and we would gather around the piano and sing songs, eat pies and just really enjoy each other. Yes; the doll was nice but having my family all together at Christmas time was the best. We still get together at Christmas and all of us kids are grown and have our own families now,my folks are growing older now too. I still ask mother to play the piano and we sing songs, that's memories that are made forever.

My favorite Christmas memories are with my children and grandchildren. Having a great dinner and then going to the living room to open gifts. The grandchildren are so excited to open their gifts. But the best part is being together and listening to their remarks about all the trees, lights, and decorations throughout the house. I want to leave behind memories for my family to remember in the future of Christmas's at Mimi's house.

My favorite memory is Christmas of 2005. My husband had to have an emergency surgery early December and was out of work due to it. I had 4 girls ages of 10, 8, 3 1/2, 2, and pregnant with another little one. Our first concern was to make sure the house payment and electric/heat bills were paid. All we had was each other and our time. We had a fake tree put it up, decorated it with popcorn, colored decorations, would sit around and listen to Christmas music. We also would take the kids outside to play a bit and have hot cocoa with peppermint sticks. We had a tree with no gifts a few weeks before Christmas. We got a surprise box from my Grandma with Christmas decorations and quilts. We had not talk in years due to my father. My husband helped guide the kids to make a big snowman in the yard. We had a neighbor offer to snow blow our back yard since husband couldn't, I was pregnant and fell once on the ice, and one neighbor brought cookies over. Within days of Christmas Eve,we had gifts from my brother and his wife, someone had lined us up for the Toy Drive, and we had a small Christmas dinner. Best part of it all, we had each other but learned we had others that cared enough about my family!

Every Christmas growing up, my family & I would travel to Beavercreek, OH to spend the holiday with my grandparents. I remember being so excited Christmas Eve that I could barely sleep. On Christmas morning, my brother & I would walk down the hallway to the living room with our parents & grandparents, eagerly anticipating what would be under the tree. My grandparents would play Christmas records while everyone was opening their presents, & to this day whenever I hear particular Christmas songs, it makes me think of them, & how much I wish they were still around. (The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole always gets to me.)

my favorite Christmas was probably the one that taught me it ws better to give then to receive. When I was about 6 my uncle was having a hard time at christmas being able to pay the bills at christmaas so my Dad took our Christmas money and gave it to him for his family. So we had no gifts for that Christmas. But My grandmother came and gave each of us kids a big peppermint candy stick. And I loved those so it was a great joy. Now Grandma Bea has went to be with the Lord and when christmas comes it reminds me of her and the christmas we gave to others.

There are so many wonderful memories, that its very hard to pick just one. But I guess one that really sticks out in my mind is when my children were in their teen years, about 6 or 7 years ago. We always made our christmas cookies in the week preceding christmas, but we always saved making the sugar cut out cookies to be made on christmas eve. This particular year, my daughter had her friend over, and she helped in the making of the cookies. We were all in the kichen around the table, each rolling out and cutting our own shapes and had christmas carols playing. The girls started giggling because one accidently sprinkled the other with powdered sugar. In no time at all, it became an all out powdered sugar/flour throwing battle. They never laughed so hard, or made a bigger mess then that day. After they were through with the cookies, we cleaned up (which took alot of effort!) and they sat down to watch a christmas show. All the lights in the room were off except the lights on the tree, and the 3 girls sat huddled together on the couch, with my son sprawled on the floor. After all the cookie making fun, when I walked into the livingroom to see them all sitting together just enjoying each others company, no fights or arguments, I just paused and thanked the Lord for such a wonderful family. It made christmas feel extra special.

I have so many favorite Christmas memories but the one I thought of right off was when my kids were 18 and 15. I always waited until they went to bed to put gifts out from Santa. That Christmas, I told them if they didn't go to bed Santa won't come -- they looked at me and said "Mom I think we know!!" But they would never tell me what they knew??? It was just cute -- they wouldn't say they didn't believe in Santa -- think they knew it would take the fun out of it for me!!

MY FAVORITE MEMORY IS OF OUR Christmas's AT MY GRANDPARENTS. MY MOTHER WAS A SINGLE MOM OF SIX CHILDREN AND TIMES WERE VERY HARD FINANCIALLY, BUT US CHILDREN NEVER LACKED IN ANY AREA AND WE NEVER KNEW WE WERE CONSIDERED POOR. MY GRANDPARENTS HELPED MY MOTHER EVERYDAY WITH US CHILDREN AND Christmases WAS NOT AN Exception. WE WOULD GET READY FOR BED ON Christmases EVE AND MY MOTHER WOULD DRIVE US TO OUR GRANDPARENTS HOUSE WHERE WE WOULD HAVE A VERY Extravagant DINNER WITH HAM, TURKEY, AND HOMEMADE PIES. AT MIDNIGHT WE WOULD OPEN OUR GIFTS, I NEVER CAN REALLY SAY HOW MY MOTHER AND GRANDPARENTS DID IT, BUT WE HAD SO MANY GIFTS UNDER THE TREE FOR US KIDS, MORE THAN ONE CAN EVEN IMAGINE. BUT THE BEST GIFTS WERE THE CLOTHES MADE BY MY GRANDMOTHER. SHE EVEN MADE MATCHING CLOTHES FOR US FOUR GIRLS AND CLOTHES FOR OUR BABY DOLLS. WE WOULD RECEIVE Crocheted JACKETS WITH HOODS THAT HAD A BIG BALL ON TOP OF OUR HEADS ALL MADE OUT OF YARN. WE WOULD ALSO RECEIVE HAND MADE SOAPS AND COOKIES. THOSE WERE VERY SPECIAL TIMES THAT I WISH TO CONTINUE ON WITH MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN TODAY.

I am the youngest of 5 children and my favorite memory is of my dad lining us children up in the hall behind the door and making us wait until he had the living room just perfect. He and my mom built a fire and made hot chocolate for each of us. He would get us so excited to open gifts. He would make us line up a different way every year. Youngest to oldest, tallest to shortest...it was always different. He loved being a dad!

I just found your blog today and wanted to share my favorite Christmas memory.
I grew up in Chicago with an extended family who lived a block away from us. One Christmas, my mother rented a Santa Clause costume. Assuming that it was for my dad to wear, we didn't think much of it until Christmas Eve when we had to transport all the presents down the street by foot. Mom emerged wearing the Santa Clause costume and we helped her stuff her belly with a pillow. We loaded up all the presents and walked to the relatives house my mother ho ho hoing and ringing a bell all the way. The neighbors came out to see what was going on and there was lots of merriment along the way. In a large city, this is the closest some of the neighbors probably ever got to their neighbors.
We children were so thrilled with how well my mother played the role! Infact, she wouldn't dream of having let a man inside that costume!
The smaller kids were very convinced that it was really Santa. She gave the presents away and then ducked out to change and rejoin the party.

My favorite Christmas memory was with my youngest daughter, who at the time was 3. We came home from Christmas Eve service and found Santa sitting in our living room, resting from his all night journey. Santa, was played by my brother-in-law, who with the help of my sister, made that Christmas special for all of us. My daughter is now 19 and says that she remembers that Christmas and if fact we told her who Santa was. She told me that she always thought that her uncle was Santa. Kids, sometimes are hard to fool!

My favorite Christmas memory...
There are so many favorite Christmas memories that it is hard to pick just one! Most of my favorite memories simply involve spending time with family, while celebrating the true reason for Christmas; Christ's birth.
But, one particular, funny moment that stands out in my memory from my childhood is the time my sister slammed the front door in Santa's face!
It was almost bedtime, about a week before Christmas, and my dad heard a noise at the front door. He thought it was the cat scratching to be let inside, so he instructed my fourteen year old sister to open the door and let the cat in. When she opened the door, instead of the cat running inside, Santa jumped out from hiding and said, "Ho, Ho, Ho!".
She screamed at the top of her lungs, slammed the door in Santa's face, and ran to the opposite side of the house.
"Santa" turned out to be one of my Dad's friends who decided to dress up as Santa and visit everyone he knew who had young children at home. Santa's wife and son were in the car waiting in the driveway while he stopped at our home to wish us a Merry Christmas.
The funniest part of the memory is that my sister had a crush on "Santa's" son. The object of her teenage fixation was sitting in the car, and witnessed her reaction to Santa coming to the door.
I was only about 8 years old at the time, so I got the pleasure of a visit from Santa, unexpected candy at bedtime, and watching my sister totally embarrass herself!
We often look back and talk about that surprise visit from Santa and laugh about her over-reaction to the surprise visit from the jolly man!

My favorite memory involves my youngest daughter and her great-grandmother. My husband & I had opted out of using Santa with the girls. We told them the story of St. Nicholas, how other people like to pretend about Santa, and how it's our secret and we don't tell other children that Santa's not real. When Sarah was about 4 years old, Mammy asked her "What did Santa bring you?" Sarah looked at me and with big eyes asked "Mommy, Mammy's not little, is it all right if I tell her about Santa or should I let her believe a little longer?"

My favorite memory was the year my family was really struggling with finances. We knew that our parents couldn't afford gifts, but I had secretly hoped and asked Santa for a Tiny Tears doll. I cried my own tiny tears when I opened up the single gift under the tree and it was that doll. Somehow, my parents made it happen and all 5 of us got a special gift that year. I will never forget their sacrifices

My parents didn't have much money growing up, but I always looked forward to Christmas, especially Christmas Eve. After my dad would get home from work we would all snuggle in the car together and go to see a live nativity scene at the local church. It was always neat to see the live animals and people. Afterwards we went to our church's candlelight service. Then we would drive around and look at all the pretty Christmas lights. Finally we went home read the Christmas story out of the Bible and went to bed, but not before I left cookies and milk out for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. It was those memories that were special.

My favorite memory is going to my grandparents after Santa had been there....we kids would go in the back door and as soon as I walked in I could smell the fruit that mamaw had for us. All the lights in the house would be off except for the Christmas tree and each grandchild a little pile of presents and fresh fruit, nuts, and candy in a brown paper bag. I looked forward to those little brown bags every year. That was many years ago, but I still can close my eyes and picture walking in mamaw and papaws house and I can still smell that smell...I miss those days so very much and I miss mamaw and papaw...oh to bring those days back, just one more time! That is my favorite memory!

My favorite Christmas was when I was 9 years old. It snowed on Christmas Eve and Santa brought me a Flexible Flyer sled. My dad pulled me all over the neighborhood on that sled Christmas day. I am one of 4 kids and really cherished that time I got alone with my dad. It was a day I will remember forever!

I remember spedning Christmas' with our good family friends who were more like cousins to me. We would get to their house and everyone would be put to work.... someone peeling potatoes, another tossing a salad. My mom always carved the turkey and my "cousin" Paul would eat heaps of mashed potatoes! The to top it all off "Aunt" Yolanda would have us pose for pictures, after sitting for a few minutes while she tried to work the camera... the flash wouldn't work! They moved out of state a few years back and Christmas has never been the same without them. I miss the humor, the food and the family.

We decided to teach our children about the European tradition of Sinterklaas, as the Dutch say, and keep our Christmas celebration about "Jesus' Birthday". So my favorite St. Nicholas' day memory is the tears of joy I cried when my semi-rebellious pre-teen boy presented me with a "Bible" wooden treasure box that he had made.

My favorite Christmas would be last year's. When I was younger my mom's family used to gather at her parents' house for dinner and gifts, now since my grandmother is in a nursing home we rent a small place, but big enough for the whole family, and everyone, besides my grandma, brings a few dishes to share. Last year as we were eating, in walks a person none of us recognized. He walks in starts looking around. He finally makes his way to my aunt, who basically was the one in charge, and told her that he is a reporter for a local newspaper and was wondering what was going on for there to be a lot of cars out front. My aunt explained to him that due to scheduling conflicts with her work that we were celebrating Christmas a day late in honor of my grandmother, who was 88, and that she had children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in attendance. He asked if it would be alright to take pictures and he was given permission. It will be a Christmas to remember because my grandmother is not is good health now and won't be around come this Christmas. I have cut out the picture that was printed in the next paper and will always cherish it any my last Christmas with my grandmother.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity, Amy! I grew up in the 80's when Cabbage Patch dolls were the rage. Before that I had collected Strawberry Shortcake dolls. When Christmas came it was easy to figure out if I was getting one of said dolls because of their uniquely shaped boxes. One year, however, I had opened up everything but one final box and was getting down in the mouth because it didn't appear that I was getting a Cabbage Patch doll. When I opened up the final box I was very excited to receive a new Cabbage Patch doll! My mother didn't appreciate how I had been disappointed because it was her goal to disguise that particular gift. She succeeded!

My favorite Christmas memories are when my Dad would be home. He was a engineer on the railroad, so we never new when he would be home. It was always exciting to have snacks, and Piano music by my sister on Christmas Eve, and then be in the Christmas Pageant for Sunday School. Of course after I was older it was the same tradition on Christmas Eve, except we would go to Church to see my Niece and Nephew in the pageant, and then attend the midnight service for Communion.

Way back in "the olden days"?? (as my kids think), I remember getting a Barbie Dream House. Yup, at I0 years old, I could not have gotten anything better!!!! It wasn't until I was an "old woman" that it hit me how Santa's elves, or whoever put that thing together (Thanks Daddy!) had quite a job. I know it took many a night of cutting out, folding, putting the correct tab in the correct slot, to finally finish the perfect construction of my Barbie Dream House creation!!!!

One of my favorite Christmas memories was going to my Amish step-brother, David's house for the first time. The smells were wonderful! Everything was so crisp and clean! He took us for a ride in the horse and buggy and we got to use an out house for the first time since we were kids! It was sparkling clean too! And the food! Rhoda is a fabulous cook and baker! It opened our eyes to a whole new world that we treasure to this day!

Probably the most memorable Christmas, was the year after my father-in-law passed away. My mother -in-law had been sullen quite a while, but insisted on getting gifts for the children. My son had a fascination with Christmas Nutcrackers, so I told her she could get one for his collection. After asking where she could get one, I told her CVS pharmacy. Before Christmas, she told me she had purchased the nutcracker, but could not understand why he wanted one. She even said the clerk was puzzled. It never dawned on me why she made that statement. But wait, you will find out why. On Christmas Day when we were ready to exchange gifts, by Mother-in-law gave my son his gift. She waited anxiously, as he unwrapped the package. You should have seen the look on his face and mine!!!!!!!!!! It was the look of utter confusion. Then, everyone burst out laughing. She had gotten him a kitchen (silver) nutcracker that is actually used to crack nuts. When she realized her mistake, she broke down in laughter until the tears started running down her face. It was a much needed laugh for her. I really do not know if I have ever in my life seen her laugh so much. And, I am certain she has not laughed as much since. It was one of the most memorable Christmas' we ever had.

One of my favorite memories of Christmas was when the children of our church put on a little skit of the Christmas story. With Mary & Joseph shyly sitting by the manger, the shepherds came with staffs of large plastic candy canes & dressed for the occasion. One was carrying a plastic lamb which was laying down. On the way up the steps he dropped it and picked it up by it's head and held it lopsided part of the time. When the Angels came in there were quite a few & there wings kept poking someone and one girl got poked in the face. She scowled angrily at the one who did it and slapped her. When the 3 Kings came in they were carrying various sizes of boxes or bottles wearing Burger King crowns. After stumbling around a bit one of them dropped his gift and stooped to pick it up. His crown fell off so he picked it up and twirled it around his finger. When one of the others saw him he wanted to try it, too. One of the littlest shepherds fell down & couldn't get up without someone bumping him. One of the shepherds also stooped over to look at the 'baby Jesus' and Mary pushed him away. It was so funny that I couldn't control my giggling and the lady behind couldn't either and she poked me, which made m laugh harder. Of course everyone was getting tickled but doing a better job than I or my friend behind me. I still call it the Precious Moment Christmas, that's all I could think of. It was the cutest!!!

Every Christmas when our family gets together my husband reads the story in the bible about the birth of Jesus. Then we talk about how the Lord has blessed us during the year and how thankful we are to be a family that is together once again. We then pray together and then we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus then we open our presents. I always get a cake from the Dairy Queen that says Happy Birthday Jesus. My husband and I have 3 children and they are married and we have 7 grandchildren and the olderst grandchild is 9 years old. We are truely blessed and I hope that our children will continue with this tradition when we are gone. May God bless you and your family! Jesus is the Reason for All of the Seasons!

I'd like one more story to write even though it doesn't give me another chance to win. I LOVE Christmas stories and have enjoyed reading many of these.
One of my favorite Chrismases was when I was about 13 or 14 yrs. old. I wanted a gray stuffed dog for my bed (all the girls were putting oddles of stuffed animals on their bed & I had 1 stuffed white cat I just loved) well...anyway, Mom knew which dog I wanted. WEll on Christmas Day many of us (there were 7 children) got up sick and so did Mom. She tried to help my Dad to hand out gifts. This is an awful thing to do and I had never done it before or since but when I opened everything they gave me I didn't get my stuffed dog & I felt bad. I determined I would not say anything and was rejoicing over the few other things I got. Mom was going around the room & checking that everybody got all their gifts when all of a sudden she siad 'Sharon, did you get all of your gifts?" Of ocurse how would I know?

Many of my favorite Christmas memories are of going into the woods with my Dad to cut down a cedar tree that would be our Christmas Tree. One year we cut down the perfect tree and my Dad drug it back to the house and trimmed it to fit into the tree stand. We put it in the tree stand and carried it into the house and a squirrel ran out of it and ran up to the top of one of the living room curtains! My Mom and Dad chased it out of the house with a broom. That is a Christmas that neither I nor that squirrel will ever forget.

One of my favourite Christmas memories was years ago as a child...travelling up the Coopers Beach (in New Zealand) and camping. We'd get there on Christmas Eve...Mum would have all our gifts wrapped and ready to put under the tree ( she had packed as well) ...it was wonderful waking up in our tent to Christmas Day!!
PS...I just LOVE reading your books...keep them coming ladies!! God bless you!!

My favorite Christmas memory was when the whole family was together. Friends joined us. Who would have ever thought 3 months later our lives would be dramatically changed by a horrible accident. The young daughter of my parents friends hit us in very bad car accident and passed away. I have the memories of that christmas close in my heart.

I grew up on the mission field in a foreign country. I remember getting a juices (not electric) for Christmas. My friends and I all had to try it out that day. We must have gotten swimsuits too because we have old home movies of us in swimsuits using the juicer. We were about 7 or 8 years old.

My mother and I had a tradition of watching A Christmas Carol at midnight every Christmas Eve. Well one year, Ebenezer was forgotten when we heard on the police scanner, the dispatcher putting out an APB on a small round man with a deer pulled sleigh who was suspected of breaking in to houses. Then the officers started responding like they were investigating. It was hysterical. They only did it one year.

My favorite Christmas memory is that it was the same day as my Little Granny's birthday. Once I got married, I began making my Granny's birthday cake every year. It would be Red Velvet and once my daughter became 10 years old she began helping me. I miss that now because my Little Granny died 5 years ago at the age of 94. We still make a Red Velvet Cake every Christmas anyway because it holds special memories.

When I was in my early teens my parents sat the seven of us down and told us that there would be no Christmas. Things were tight and we didn`t even have a tree. Just before we all went to bed for the night, there was a knock on the door and there stood a christmas tree with my parents best friends holding a gift for each of us. I remember that I received a package of underwear.

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love everything about it. We have always gone to Christmas Mass on Christmas Eve, then have a dinner that celebrates Italian and polish foods. We also after blessings, share in the breaking of holy wafers-the opłatek. Everyone at the table breaks off a piece and eats it as a symbol of their unity with Christ. They then share a piece with each family member giving good wishes for the following year. Christmas morning is a big breakfast with any family and neighbors that show up. It is very special

My most wonderful Christmas my Daddy took me and my 3 siblings to chop down a Christmas tree out in the country. There was a big snow on the ground and my baby sister kept falling down in it and laughing. We found our favorite tree and my Dad cut it down. We took it home and decorated it with popcorn and construction paper . We made curls out of the paper and hung those on there. I remember the wonderful smell of the pine tree. We did not have much money but we thought we had a very good Christmas. This was a big treat for us. It was back in the late 1950's. I treasure that Christmas memory.

My favorite christmas memory has to do with my dad who has been gone for about 12 yrs now. I know you don't know my family but my dad loved christmas. It was one of his favorite holidays. Well after dinner when we would trade presents we would watch as his face would light up when it was his turn to give my mom her gift. One year he thought he had it in the bag because my mom is really picky and very hard to buy for. He bought a barbie piece of clothing a barbie handbag a barbie pair of boots and he attached a gift card to the barbie item. This way my mom couldn't take back the present if she didn't like what he bought. He figured a gift card would solve this problem. Well the look on my moms face was priceless. She was speechless which is really hard for my mom. I'll never forget how happy he was to win this time and get the right gift. I'll never forget his face.

I loved being at my grandmother's with all the cousins on Christmas Eve. The presents would be about 3 to 4 feet high all around the tree. My mom had 7 siblings and then they all had 1-4 kids each so it was a lot of folks. We didn't get a lot of expensive things, a lot of what we got were home made items, but I still some of them. We would play games, play with our new toys and share we everyone. Eat a wonderful mean and have a blast. We were all truly blessed.
Now I love when all 3 of my children are here for Christmas. I never put names on their packages I put codes so that they don't know who's it is and then I make them guess which one is their's. It is a blast. Sometimes I get confused and they open the wrong one and everyone gets a big laugh (My son might open body spray and one of my girls might open his underware, lol.) Good family time.

Well, one Christmas after prayer, devotion and dedicating the decorated Christmas tree to Jesus we lit the candle on Jesus B'day cake and proceeded to eat Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and beautiful worship music playing in the background and the cozy glow from the crackling firer dancing on the walls as we discussed the assigned Christmas book we all had to read before Christmas. I believe it was Christmas Vow by L. Copeland. Around about the time the turkey kicked in and we were all getting drowsy with heads at half mass my son asked when was Jesus going to blow out his b'day candles. Not knowing how to answer we just said, wait and see hoping he would forget about it. Not long after wards the candle went out from what felt like a slight breeze from out of the blue. My flesh was somehow still in the chair trying to keep a straight face in front of my son who was jumping and cheering Jesus blew out his candle while half the family at the table were no where in sight. I think I died for just a second that day. That blew our after dinner traditional turkey nap. I just love the Lord! We will never forget that Christmas!

One Christmas Eve in the mid 1960's our family drove around our town looking at Christmas lights while listening to carols on the car radio. When we got home we begged to open a present early. Our mom and dad let my brothers and me each open one. That was the first time they had ever let us do that! I got a barbie doll. She had blond hair like mine. I loved that Christmas the most!
Now in our family we let each of the kids open one gift on Christmas Eve.

1972 - I had lost an infant son and my mother the year before but that year I had my first living son. He was 2-1/2 months at Christmas but the biggest blessing I had ever had. We had a quite Christmas eve alone as a new WHOLE family. Then on Christmas my two brothers, a sister-in-law and 3 nieces and 1 nephew got together to celebrate Christmas - the birth of our lord!

One year when times were pretty tough my grandmother decided to make clothes for my favorite doll. When we went over to open presents, my grandmother lived in the house behind ours so we didn't have to go over the river and through the woods, she handed me a small green suitcase just big enough for an overnight sleepover with friends. I thought that was so sweet but then she said, "Honey, look inside." When I opened it there were all kinds of clothes for my doll...nightgown, coats with hat, dresses, pants, and shirts. I couldn't stop looking at all those clothes. I still a have few pieces of them in a box and I let my little girl play with them and the doll when she was little.

Our family attended Christmas Eve services at a neighborhood farm. A local church put on the service and we would sit on hay and watch the manger scene. We would go home and have fondue for dinner.

Until we went to school Christmas at our home was always celebrated on December 5, the Dutch Sinterklaas day. Once at school we couldn't understand why we didn't receive gifts at Christmas, so my parents changed our celebrations to fit in with North American customs. The gifts always appeared under the tree on the Friday before Christmas, our weekly family grocery shopping day. To this day I do not know who was responsible for putting them there because I can't remember having to wait for anybody to get into the car. On Christmas Eve day we opened our gifts. We each received one significant gift plus a supply of pads of paper and pencils. Christmas day was the day we spent celebrating Christ's birth and having a nice meal. It was a joyful time for all of us.

My favorite Christmas memories are going to my grandparents. Grandpa would take us out to the forest to get a tree. That tree was never the prettiest one to be had but it was very special for we (my brother and our 3 cousins closest to our age and myself) were with him. When we got back to the house grandma would get out the decorations and make popcorn for us to string (we ate more than what we put on the tree). My grandparents were very simple people, not rich in money but
rich in love. We kids would find blankets and pillows and find a spot on the floor to sleep. How Santa found a way to come we never knew, for all of us were right there guarding the tree and grandpa was sleeping right by us to protect us and the tree from the grinch. Christmas dinner was a trip into town to eat with my aunt and uncle and the rest of the cousins, it was always a huge meal with all the Christmas trimmings. The most important part of Christmas was that the family was all together and there was love to share.

My favorite Christmas memory happened when I was a teenager. My brothers lived in GA and we lived in OK. They couldn't come that year so my parents bought some clothes to send them. They had me wrap them up individually. Each sock wrapped by itself. Then they had me write on the packages "Open this one first". We called them on Christmas to listen to them opening their gifts. Shouts of "I got a sock, I got another sock". It was fun to do something like that. Even though we couldn't be together, we were still having fun as a family.

My favorite Christmas was 2007 when my daughter was born. She was my second child and there are 14 yrs between the two but we were told I could not have any children and then to be bless with two is a miracle. My oldest daughter and husband along with my parents/stepparents were at the hospital when she was born. It was the best christmas present anyone could ask for.

One of my favorite memories was the Christmas weekend it rained so much we had to stay home and indoors the entire time. Now, it almost always rains in that part of Florida on Christmas. But this one year it was really bad, so a lot of the Christmas festivities had been cancelled. So, to cheer my sister and me up and to save us all from boredom, my parents let us paint Christmasy designs with "snow" from a can on all the windows in the house. (Ten years later you could still see a hint of those designs when the sun hit the windows just right.) And then my parents and sister and I spent the entire weekend making Christmas cookies and trying to outdo each other in artistic icing of the cookies, often spending close to an hour on just one or two cookies at a time. To this day, I still think those were some of the best decorated cookies I have ever seen! And it was quality time spent as a family, turning what had the potential to be a very disappointing Christmas into a fun and cherished memory.

When I was growing up in the 1950's, we usually traveled to West Virginia, from Ohio, for the week after Christmas, to visit our grandparents. One year we were actually going to be at my grandparents for Christmas day. My sister and I were very worried that Santa would not know where we were. My dad made a "phone call", and as we gathered around to listen, dad gave the address where we would be and our names. That "phone call" calmed our fears. When we woke up on Christmas morning at our grandparents house, we found our presents under the Christmas tree, and we knew it was because dad had made that "phone call"!

When I was little I couldn't wait to go to my grandpas house for Christmas. We (me and my 4 sisters and brother) got to spend the whole morning visiting there. When it came time for our gift my grandpa told us to pick our envelope off the tree (he was blind so he wasnt able to see our expression). When we opened it we got our own dollar bill. We were so happy we ran to our grandpa and gave him a warm and loving hug. Shortly thereafter we said our Psalm prayer and ate our Christmas dinner that my mom cooked. It was my warmest memory when I was very young.

Living in Southeast Missouri you never know what the weather will be at Christmas. We lived in a huge two story home with all hard wood floors. My brother and I both wanted bikes for Christmas but knew that times were hard and Santa may not be able to bring us bikes. We woke up Christmas morning and there was a foot of snow and under the tree were 2 brand new bikes, we wanted to ride so bad but with the snow we knew that it was not going to happen. So my mom and grandmother went around down stairs and moved furniture around and my brother and I got to ride out bikes in the house that Christmas morning. We were the most happy kids in the world. That was the only time that we were allowed to ride in the house but my mom wanted us to have a memory that we could always treasure and I have to this day 40 years later.

Well I do not know that I have one special Christmas, for everyone is special because it is my Father's Birthday. I love having as a child the Christmas Story of Christ birth read to us. There was not many gifts to be had but what we got made us excited. there were 7 children and the folks did missionary type work. But now as a mom and grandma I get excited that it is the little things that make them excited. So Christmas to me is about Jesus' Birth so I just want it to be great every year for me.

My favorite Christmas was way back in 1964. I was born and lived in Reading, Pa. until 1963 and my family had returned to Pa. for the holidays. My youngest brother and I were hoping for a white Christmas. We were sleeping on the third floor of my grandmothers row house. We finaly did get snow for Christmas and while looking at the snow thru the window on Christmas morning I saw one of Santa's reindeers' paw print in the snow a few roofs over. (Of course the older one's said it was something else - but my younger borther and I knew better.) This was the highlight of the season for me and when I returned to our home in Montgomery,Alabama , it was the first thing I told everyone saw about it. Some believed me but alot did'nt. Beat they did not get what they wanted for Christmas that year.

My favorite Christmas was December 25, 2005. It was our first Christmas with our sons. We had prayed for thirteen years for God to bless us with children. The Lord sent two precious boys (then ages 6 and 8) to our home in February of that year. We were made a forever family on June 24, 2005. They came from a background of abuse and neglect. I remember all the excitement building up before Christmas. Our home was so decorated. We cut out so many snowflakes out of paper and glittered them that it looked as though it were really snowing inside of our Florida home. We made all sorts of homemade decorations and goodies to eat. One of the special moments was when we put our family ornament on the tree the listed all of names on it. I get teary eyed just thinking about that moment. My husband and I bought so many toys and clothes for the boys. We wanted them to have a Christmas like they had never experienced before. We videoed waking them up and watching them as they walked into the living room to open presents. Their little eyes were as big as saucers. They kept asking if it was really their presents. They were very overwhelmed. They were just as excited about the stocking stuffers as they were over the basketball goal or soccer goals. We watch that video quite often. Christmas is my favorite time of year. It is something special to view it through a child's eyes.

My most favorite Christmas memory was the year my hubby and I, newly married with 5 kids between us, saved each and every penny we could the entire year so that we could buy 3 of the kids, all in high school sports,(the other two were in middle school) their high school letterman jackets. 4 days before Christmas, we realized we had just $11.06 but needed $47.98 to pay for jacket #3 and were just sick as there simply was not anymore money to put into this dream. We told Mr. Scott, the shopkeeper, where we had put the jackets on layaway in March, that we were only going to be able to buy 2 and why. He looked at us for what seemed like a long time and then said, "I had two teenage boys once and I know how much their jackets meant to them. The third jacket is on sale and I will let you have it for whatever money you have saved for it." Needless to say, we were thrilled. Christmas morning came and we saved the three packages for last. When we presented them to Vince, Rikki and Joana, they cried. It had been such a "far away" dream as they called it and they thanked us over and over. Everytime I think of this memory, the tears well up in my eyes and I recall the graciousness of the shopkeeper to make the dreams of these three teens come true. I remember their tears and holding the jackets tight to their chests as the tears squeezed through their closed eyelids. I am grateful still for the good heart and the generosity of Mr. Scott. He made our kids the happiest I had ever seen them.
