It's Here! Win an ARC of A Time to Heal

I've read some really nice reviews of A Time to Love, the first book of the Quilts of Lancaster County series (Abingdon Press) where readers say they can't wait to read the second book, A Time to Heal. Well, one reader will get the first chance to read the book when she wins a copy of the Advance Reader Copy in this week's contest.

To win, tell me what you liked about the first book, A Time to Love. What character or scene was your favorite? Who do you hope to see in the next book? Do you like a scene from the next book featured at the back of the book? Why do you read Amish fiction? You don't have to answer all of the questions. Just one.

The winner of last week's contest is  Ellen Devenny. Her memory of what her father did to give her a Christmas memory is so sweet. Congratulations! I'll be sending you an autographed copy of An Amish Christmas, Expanded Edition, to read before the holidays! Look for an e-mail from me to get your snail mail address.

Until next week, bundle up if you're in a cold area and read something good!

Barbara

Because I cannot stand being able to read more, I always wait until all of the series comes out to read them at one time in the sequence. I'll never be able to win a book because of this, I guess.

I have been fascinated by the Amish ever since I can remember. In some ways I envy their simple life and the special love they have for one another. The stories you all provide for us bring that so much to life for us; but they also make you realize they are still human. They sin and have problems just like the rest of us.

Every time I see a giveaway for a book written about the Amish, I get excited about reading it. I enjoy learning of other customs and how God is worshipped in diverse faiths from my own. I'm fascinated by their lifestyle and admire their tight closeness with the Lord.

    Blessings of Joy,

I love to read Amish Fiction because of its pureness, cleanliness, the way they raise their family with such closeness and simplicity. Also because your family is a whole community, when one hurts, they all hurt. They never let one fall behind.

All I can say is, what better place could you be to try and recover from an injury received in a war torn country than in an Amish community. The love and support these communities show and share are amazing.

I have not yet read " A Time to Love" Yet. However, it is on my list to read and would love to have "A Time to Heal", as well. I absolutely love reading Amish Fiction books. I find them to be truly inspirational and uplifting. I know that "A Time to Heal " is an excellent book (it is on my Christmas wish list) and I look forward to reading both of your books in the future.

There are so many vivid memories I have of your first book. I guess if I have to choose one is that there is always hope and love when you face a tragedy in your life. I feel for the children who are hurt by war. Throughout your book you give us hope and a belief that God does hear us. I can't wait for the next one to come out. The title alone is exciting. Thanks for the first one it was an excellent read.
    Thanks, Connie

After reading the A Time To Love, I can hardly wait till the next book comes out. i love to read Amish books, they have no bad language and do not have all the sex in them that some other books do. I enjoy reading about the Amish faith. The Amish families seem to have a closeness that I wish others had. Keep up the good work.

I love reading Amish fiction and other Christian fiction books because I know that I will enjoy a good story and not have to worry about foul language or sexual situations being in it.
I do like to read a scene from the upcoming sequel. If I enjoyed the first novel chances are I will buy the next in the series anyway, but it's always fun to read about the next storyline.

I love Amish fiction because they have helped me in my own life. When I read these books I vision my life how it would be if I was able to help without asking for anything in return. I also read how they pray for answers to problems and just to pray to our lord. I've found that reading these books I've changed my life totally I'm more devoted to God and to being a giving person and forgiving without any hard feelings to other. So I general these Amish books have helped me become the person I've always wanted to be and AM!

My favorite scene from A Time to Love is Jenny's TV interview, when she watches it with her friend. That whole section brought me to tears. So excited that A Time to Heal will be released in a couple months!

I loved "A Time to Love" and can't wait to get my hands on "A Time to Heal" when it comes out. While Matthew and Jenny were the main characters, I enjoyed Rebecca and Phoebe. I hope to see more of them in the next 2 books from Barbara.

I would be overjoyed if I were to receive Barbara's new book... especially since she & I share the same first name!

Ever since I picked up the first Amish Fiction Book I have bought mostly Amish fiction! Some yrs. back, we had a young Amish Man in our Nursing Home from a nearby Amish community, and his Mother told me that they are like one big family.. all of the Amish whether they are a relative or not help each other all of the time and we all can learn a lot from them.. They even had a Sunday morning where they all came in and had a Church Service there in our Day Room, which I missed because I was off on that weekend, but heard about it from my co-workers. There were a lot of Amih that were there that day.. And that is why I like reading about them, the closeness and their belief in God is very strong.

The reason I love to read Amish romances is because their way of life is so interesting. I love their clothes and the simplicity of it all, and I learn more about the Amish every time I read an Amish romance.

I read no other books except Amish fiction. I love the simplicity of the life of the Amish. I admire the life that they have set apart from the world that many of us have seem to have lost our way in. In October I just returned from my 6th visit to Lancaster because I just love to ride in their country and see the way they live. When I read the fiction stories, I have been to a lot of the places that are mentioned and I feel that I am a part of the book. I become lost in it.
Thanks for all your work in writing these stores.

I like how the Amish live a simple life. Not having to worry about gas prices, car maintenances, they just have to take care of the buggy and horse which I think could add up in prices for feed and probably vet bills. Also they can and put up their vegetables, fruits and meats so they shouldn't have to worry about the high cost of food and what to get at the market like I do everyday because they have the supplies at home.

I think it is totally too difficult to pick a favorite part of the book because there was so much I love about it. When Jenny first arrived at her grandmothers and Matthew carried her in, and Jenny feeling the familiarity of that person, even though she was out of it because of the meds. When she had the interview and watched the playback, and all of the emotion it evoked, all the way through to when Jenny and Matthew married. And everything in between. I love amish fiction not only because I am so interested in the Amish way of life and love the values they hold so dear, but also because it speaks to me spiritually and just gives me a wonderful sense of calm, that makes me feel so good inside. When I'm having a bad day, all I need is a good Amish fiction book to make things "look" better in my day. They always remind me that all the little blessings are there, everyday. Ihope it remains a top genre for years to come!
