Spring Cleaning
Who am I kidding with a title like that? Anyone who knows me knows I hate cleaning and will find any excuse possible to avoid it until it HAS to be done. And spring is very fleeting in Florida -- the temperatures are already in the middle 80s and expected to get even hotter this week.
So, naturally, my air conditioning went out yesterday. The poor thing was ready to retire after 24 years of service to this house. I knew when I moved in years ago that it was on its last legs and have been grateful for every minute of cool air -- especially in our VERY hot summers in Florida. I've managed to stack a bunch of boxes outside the utility room where the air conditioning repairman will have to look at the unit in the morning so this blog will be brief so I can move them. But I'm sure YOU don't want to hear about house cleaning anyway!
Am having great fun working on the second Amish series for Abingdon Press. My characters are about to go on a Great Adventure! More details later as they become available.
I loved reading the comments to my last blog about favorite memories of birthdays or Easter. The comment Susan DuBois left about how her mother was pregnant and due near Easter was so precious! She described how her mother wore yellow to church and looked like an Easter egg. I could just see it. Susan, I'm sending you a personal e-mail for your mailing address to send you an autographed copy of A Time to Heal, the second book of the Quilts of Lancaster County series.
Have a great week, everyone!

I know what you mean about the weather in Florida and Spring cleaning. I managed to get my office "straightened" up so I could do more reading and writing. I have 29 more days of school before I can get into the cleaning. Writing definitely takes top place. Lucky for me I have a loving husband who works at home to take care of my mother and he picks up the cleaning slack.

This may sound funny, but I am jealous of people who can clean "normally". I live in a roughly 300 square foot studio (that includes kitchen and bathroom space) in NYC and this brings a whole new dimension to living/storage/cleaning normally. The apartment is long and narrow, which also presents challenges (compared to a square room).
Everything in my apartment is super compact and I have to be particular about what I keep and how. Storage is challenging, but it also forces me to weed through things and keep solely what is important - clutter and lots of "stuff" is not an option!
I am overjoyed that I have a ton of windows and get a lot of natural light, which helps make my teeny, tiny space seem a little larger. A feature that is brought out by the light is an entire wall of exposed brick - it's charming.
Living in NYC does have it's benefits though - there is little reason for me to stay in my apartment a lot. I love going out and exploring, even after living here almost four years. Being in my early 30's, there is a lot of advantages.
Overall, it's a great match for me. There are times that the "suburban me" kicks in though and I think back of growing up in a house with a yard and all that comes along with it. It does make me a little nostalgic!

Spring Cleaning? I have done some, both inside and outside. BUT, at the moment my Mother found out that she needed to have BOTH of her knees replaced, so, I have moved in with her to help her for the next 2 weeks. I have brought her 10 Amish books that I have read, something we have in common. So, If I win some more books, I will be sharing them with my MOM. THANK YOU for this opportunity!

Spring Cleaning? I have done some outside and some inside. I like the outside much more! I love the fresh air and flowers! I have just moved in with my mother for the next 2 weeks. She has just had both of her knees replaced and I am helping her "get back on her feet". I brought 10 Amish Fiction books that I have read to her. That is something we have in common. So, if you pick my name, we will share your books with others! THANK YOU for this opportunity!

Love your books, tried a couple of the receipes & they are delicious. How do I enter for your contest. Looking for your next book. Only one complaint, the book was over too soon. Would love to have a 1,000 page book. Yeah, I like your books that well. God bless

It seems funny hearing about spring cleaning as I'm in Western Australia where we are TRYING to have fall. It's the hottest start to the year on record, and that started in the 1880's! Day time temperatures are ok. Night times we can finally sleep. Summer was a scorcher, and a nightmare to try and sleep in, even if you did have air conditioning.
I know I missed out about birthdays. I hope you don't mind me sharing now. My mother was told that I was going to be an Easter baby, so she helped. My dad had just left for work after lunch on the Thursday before Good Friday. He didn't drive. He cycled everywhere. By the time he got to work, he got told to come home, his wife was in labor. Mum had been running up and down the stairs since he left to try and induce her own labor. I was born on Good Friday morning.

WHAT spring cleaning I think I still have my fall cleaning to do.All these rainy days I should of been doing some spring cleaning now it is getting nice out (and dry)and who wants to stay in and clean. I really need to get busy kind of a hoarder at heart you know one of these days I might or someone might or I will do something with that one of these days is one of my bad habits. I really would like to simplify my life so I guess to start I need to start. If spring turns into summer before I get started can I wait till fall?

Barbara,
So glad that you enjoyed my story. It is the one that we always pass on to the younger children. I have not received the email yet, so if you could resend it to me I will send you my mailing address.
Thanks
Susan
