Water - Nature's Tranquilizer

" Whether it's a stroll along the river, eating lunch by a pond in the park, weekending at a scenic lake, or vacationing by the sea...the mere sight and presence of water is a wonderful balm to the stressed-out soul."
As I was reading this stress reduction tip, from Third Way Media, I was thinking how much water plays a part in my life.  Many of the characters in my novels often have picnics near a pond.  It's a great place for a relaxing date.  Painting is relaxing for me and I love to paint waterscapes. (that's one of my paintings above)  When I need a writer's retreat, free from the distractions of my household, I escape to a condo on the beach or a little cottage on a lake.  The shimmering, soothing sights and sounds of nature help me to relax and let the creative juices and words flow.

So let me get this straight...you not only write wonderful inspiring books, you can also paint? How wonderful !! Yes there is nothing like a soothing rain to calm the soul. Wish we could get a little "calming" here in Texas.

I love the painting. I too love all things water. Living in Florida helps. It doesn't matter if I go to the beach, walk in one of our National Parks along the river, or walk the trail around the marina there is something calming about the water. My husband took me to the beach to watch the sunset the day before a major surgery just to give me peace. I know how you feel.

Like you, I find the sound of water comforting, soothing, relaxing. I don't have my sea legs yet. Every time I've been on a boat, I've fallen out. Thankfully not on a ferry. My dad was in the British Navy during WWII. I was a lot like my dad, other than the fact he had his sea legs and I didn't. Still, listening to the waves crashing onto the shore, before the foam cracks its bubbles and heads back out to the ocean. I could sit and listen to that for hours. Hearing the water lap against a row boat that's tied to its moorings. I find it really soothing.
I used to paint as a little girl. That was a very long time ago. I've lost my touch in that area. It's ok. I do other things now though.
Thanks for the link about de-stressing yourself. Very helpful.
