A Family Thing

A Time for Peace, the third book in the Quilts of Lancaster County series by Abingdon Press, will be in stores very soon. This week Romantic Times Book Review gave A Time for Peace (Book 3)  a wonderful 4 start review:

"Cameron's ability to depict life in an Amish community has earned her a following of loyal readers. She has created a believable extended family who continue to face struggles and win readers' hearts time and time again. Each book in the Quilts of Lancaster County series is a tribute to the Amish faith." Thanks, RT!!!

The book is another look at Jenny and Matthew and their kinner (from A Time to Love, the first book in the series) and there's a big secret. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Speaking of family: I always complain that I don't get to to things with my family often enough because they live some distance from me and everyone's so busy... My daughter and I often meet halfway between the cities where we live and shop and have a meal and do something fun. Yesterday she drove down to a few Interstate exits from me and we had a fun day. I'd wanted for us to take my five year old grandson to a zoo but Florida has impressive afternoon thunderstorms this time of year. So we met at this big newish shopping center and visited a pet store where Pawsibilities, a favorite pet rescue, was hosting an event, ate lunch at Five Guys (great burgers), shopped, and saw Dolphin Tale, a wonderful family movie. We ended the day with ice cream and then too soon they were on the way back home.

The movie was so good. I've never seen the grandson so enthralled but we adults loved it, too. I hope I can take my other grandchildren to see it soon. I know that some people have complained that Hollywood has turned this from a story that revolved around a dolphin and a girl to a dolphin and a boy but anything that draws a boy to reading and to a wholesome movie is good in my book. I also liked the secondary plot of how the prosthetic tail developed for the dolphin -- by a specialist in prosthetic limbs for humans -- led to a full circle of improvements for the prosthetic limbs being used by our injured soldiers. The movie was well worth the time and the significant ticket prices charged these days. By the way, I thought the $3 charged for the 3D glasses was a bit excessive but they made for some great fun with visual effects.

I hope you got to enjoy your weekend with your family. Tune in here next week for another great contest for A Time for Peace releasing soon.

Blessings,

Barbara

Check with your local theater. It's not going to be the same everywhere. I overheard the cashier telling someone the ticket price included the $3.00 but I don't know what the total ticket price was. My daughter and I were having our usual elbow tussle trying to pay and keep the other from doing it. Unfortunately, she won and paid...very sneaky (and generous) daughter.

    Barbara,
I am so happy you were able to spend quality time with your daughter and grandson yesterday. It is a blessing for me that my 3 daughters and 2 grandchildren live close enough that we see one another fairly frequently. Happy you enjoyed your day!!! Thank you for the blessing of sharing your writing with me and so many others. Your books are wonderful and look forward to the next one already. Wishing you a blessed week.

I just got back from seeing the Dolphin Tale movie and also enjoyed it. I agree with the things Barbara said and will tell you that my nine year old daughter loved it very much! She could relate to some of the things the movie brought out regarding disabilities because she has a leg issue. She is a great swimmer and swimming is a great sport for her because it doesn't effect her leg. She smiled at me a lot during the movie and commented a few times that it was a great movie! That says a lot for me. I highly recommend it for a heartwarming, family movie.

Thanks for asking about my books!

The current series is called Quilts of Lancaster County and includes A Time to Love, A Time to Heal, and A Time for Peace. Publisher is Abingdon Press.

Before I wrote them, I co-authored a novella collection called An Amish Christmas: Expanded Edition with Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, Barbara Cameron, and Kelly Long. I also co-authored a novella collection called An Amish Gathering with Beth Wiseman and Kathleen Fuller. Both the novella collections are by publisher Thomas Nelson. You can find them at any book outlet.

I haven't seen the movie as it hasn't come out in Australia yet. I've heard about the dolphin though from a pen pal of mine who lives in FL. Just the other day, she sent me some postcards about the dolphin. She went to see it again before people REALLY started going crazy to see it. I don't know about sub plots etc, but I'm glad that God gave man the brain to be able to help God's creatures to be 'healed' after being injured. From what I heard, the dolphin was a real fighter too. He was expected to die, but he's still here. Sounds like a good ending to me.
