Eat Dessert First
The Amish are well known for their love of dessert.
Anyone who works as hard as the Amish and eat as many healthy vegetables and made from scratch meals as they do deserve dessert more than people like me who are far too sedentary and don't eat as healthy as they should.
Lately I've been trying to cut back on desserts but the other day I just couldn't resist having a luxurious dessert at a downtown cafe that's next to a chocolate shop. A friend and I ordered two different desserts and then shared them so we could try both. They were so rich and the serving so large that we each brought home a little takeout box of the chocolate cheesecake and tiramisu. Yes, we had to go into the chocolate shop and get a goodie, too: I made a mistake and didn't buy chocolate. Instead, I bought a caramel apple with nuts (my favorite this time of year) and a little chocolate turkey for my youngest grandchildren I was going to see a few days later. Now I have to go back to the shop...I ... uh...well, unfortunately I couldn't resist the chocolate turkey...I'm feeling so guilty I'll probably buy my daughter some of the white chocolate covered pretzels she loves from that shop. I'll be able to resist those because I don't like white chocolate. I may have to hide the chocolate turkey in the car until I see them.
Thank you to everyone who entered last week's contest to win an autographed copy of A Time for Peace. The winner of last week's contest is Joy.
Reviews of A Time for Peace have been wonderful. It's been nice to hear from reviewers and readers who say they're enjoying a return to Jenny and Matthew's story...
I'm going to hold another contest to win an autographed copy of A Time for Peace this week. Post a comment on AmishHearts.com. You get a second chance to win if you post a comment on Facebook about where you see the book being sold in your area and mention how you read AmishHearts.com It's best if you DON'T use the word contest in your post on Facebook. They boot people off for contest entries there. When I see your Facebook comment I'll make sure to note it for your second entry. You don't have to be a user of Facebook to look me up there and post a message to me. The cover of the book is there as my profile photo. The beautiful lady with blond hair and the mother of Kirk Cameron and Candace Cameron is not me. She's so sweet -- we became FB pals after people began confusing us when she published her book about her famous kids. They thought she'd suddenly started writing Amish books...She is a VERY sweet Christian lady.
Hope you have a great week!
Barbara

I just might have to become Amish. I like the idea of eating Dessert first! I have a huge sweet tooth and it is hard to control at times. Why do we crave sweets? Why when we buy chocolate and put it away saying we won't touch it, we hear it calling our name? Right now I have 3 bags of different kinds of M&M's, 5 different kinds of chocolate bars, and several kinds of cookies in my pantry. I am saving the goodies for when my grandchildren arrive this coming Saturday. They will be visiting for five weeks before moving to Sweden with their parents for three years. Any bets on how many goodies are left before they arrive?? Pray for me!!
Blessings!

I'm recommending we eat dessert first, Judy. I don't think the Amish do but hey, why shouldn't they occasionally be indulgent just like us?!

Chocolate desserts are hard to turn down. Most anything else, "i'd rather have a ten cent" as i told my great-aunt when i was 4 years old. Now that was candy, and that's still how i feel. well, not about the money, but it's not hard for me to turn down candy or gum. Thanks for the post.
