More Amish Folk Medicine

More tidbits and tips from The Wisdom of Amish Folk Medicine by Patrick Quillin.

For a cough:

* Mix equal parts of lemon juice, honey, and castor oil. Adults take 1T per day and children over 2 yrs take 1 tsp per day.
* Steep 1/2 tsp. dried crushed green peach tree leaves in 1 quart boiling water for 10 minutes. Take 1 T. of this tea every hour with a few drops of honey.
* Steep 4 chestnut leaves in 1 pint boiling water. Sweeten with honey and drink 5-6 times daily.

For a headache:

* Often caused by stress. Learn the art of relaxation.
* Take 1/4 tsp. soda in a c. of warm water before going to bed and upon rising.
* Using forefinger pressure, massage the back of the neck.
* Saturate a cloth in ice cold vinegar, squeeze out excess, then bind around forehead. (Me: you'll smell like a salad but it will be worth it!)
* Soak feet for 10-20 minutes in a hot foot bath to which 2 tsp. powdered mustard has been added. At the same time, apply to the forehead a handkerchief well dampened with equal parts of water and vinegar.

'Til next time,
Kathleen

Thank you so much Kathleen for this post. I have been struggling with a decision and I have made it but I don't completely understand why God is taking me in this direction. Yet when I try to turn another way I get that check either through my own thinking or the counsel of others. I am leaning on Proverbs 3:5-6
